About this listen
One mistake can ruin everything.
Vanessa and Curtis have just moved to an idyllic house in the seaside town of Whitstable. Their life there is wonderful, until Vanessa’s ex-boyfriend Hayden shows up out of the blue.
Hayden is not only brash and unpredictable with a warped sense of humour, he also seems intent on making life very difficult for Vanessa, who hasn't seen him since she was sixteen.
As Hayden causes more and more disruption in their lives, Curtis begins to realise that he has some kind of bizarre hold on Vanessa.
And when she suggests a plan to remove Hayden from their lives forever, Curtis becomes convinced she's hiding some big secret from her past.
But has Vanessa underestimated how dangerous and unpredictable Hayden is? How far will he go to get what he wants? And how far will she go to stop her perfect life from being destroyed?
The Visit is a gripping psychological thriller with satisfying twists and turns that will keep listeners enthralled till the very end.

Story
Every Monday, I meet my writing group in a warm, lively bar to drink a glass of wine or two and share our work. It’s the highlight of my week. I don’t go out much, otherwise. For the last ten years, every time I’ve relaxed, the messages have started again. The black hearts. They’re a warning to remember, as if I could ever forget. Whoever sent them wants to hurt me. They’ve lost me jobs and boyfriends. Is it any wonder I like to hide in fiction?

Story
Standing in my bathroom, the luxurious marble tiles cool under my feet, I stare at the test in my trembling hand. The second line is unmistakable: I’m pregnant. This is all my husband Theo and I have ever wanted, but I didn’t think it was possible. I should be excited, but all I can think about is telling my stepdaughter. Because Ellie’s always hated me, ever since she realised it was no longer just her and Theo. Now she’s seventeen, beautiful and smart–smart enough to see through me. And if Ellie decided to uncover my secrets, it wouldn’t be just my marriage at stake… it would be my life.

Story
The moment I first gazed into Alex's soulful gray eyes, I knew I'd met the man I wanted to spend my life with. And I was right. When my beloved sister vanished, Alex put up posters and wiped away my tears after bad dream—she put me back together. But when police pull a crumpled photo from my dead sister's pocket, and I see my husband's familiar face smiling back at me, my perfect world shatters.

Story
I push open the door to the beautiful French villa and my clever, handsome husband and adorable wide-eyed children follow me inside, taking in the breath-taking view. This should be a blissful summer break, filled with sun, swimming and relaxation but the truth is very different. Because my husband has just revealed the real reason we’re here. When our friends staying at the sprawling villa greet us on the sun-soaked terrace, I smile brightly and attempt to calm my nerves.

Story
I gaze across the candlelit table into the eyes of the man I love. It’s our anniversary dinner, a celebration of our marriage, of how far we’ve come. But within hours our romantic date has ended in murder… When I wake in a hospital bed, blinking under the blinding white lights, I hear someone saying there has been an accident. My heart misses a beat when I recognize my husband’s voice. He says I was driving the car. He says I’ve killed someone.

Story
When you return from a work trip to find your husband dead in the pond, it’s best not to call him a liar and a cheat in front of the cops. Especially when you’ve spent the last few years telling anyone who’ll listen that you sometimes fantasize about killing him. It makes you look kind of, well, guilty.

Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Interesting!
This was my first Robert W. Kirby book and it was a wild ride. This book had more twists and turns than a mountain road. If you're looking for a thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat while you try to figure out what is going to happen next then pick this audio up.

Intricate, Original, and Complex
This was my first Robert W. Kirby's book. This Psychological Thriller is captivating, and original. The characters are intriguing. The plot is intricate, twisted, and complex. Dryw McArthur and Louise Rook Schofield did a great job bringing, and this story to life. #PFPAudio

Kept me guessing
The Visit is a rollercoaster ride full of twists and turns that kept me guessing from beginning to end. I didn't really like Vanessa because I couldn't understand why she didn't just tell Curtis about her secret past. Of course, we weren't supposed to know the details too soon which became clear at the end. The story was fast-paced and exciting. If you love psychological thrillers, then this is definitely worth checking out. Dryw McArthur and Louise Rook Schofield both did a nice job bringing this story to life.

Chaotic vengeance ...
Well this read is the epitome of one’s past ‘coming back to haunt them’. It’s chaotic, mysterious, funny at times in a dry way, and has sporadic bits of action sprinkled in.
If you enjoy qualities like betrayal, scandal, cold-cases, years-long scheming, and unhinged characters with a thirst for vengeance, you’ll like this.
Based on this experience—my first with this author—I’d be open to more.
Written in third-person POV, alternating.
🎧 Audio:
Excellent!
Dual narration and both were excellent. Paired with the high-quality overall quality, this is a 5-star listen.

New to me genre
This is the first book I've read/listened to by Robert W. Kirby. Psychological Thrillers are not my normal genre, but I enjoyed listening to something different. The twists threw me off each time. I can't say that I liked the characters, but I was invested in the outcome. I'd listen to other book by this author.
Dryw McArthur and Louise Rook Schofield are new to me narrators. I love their voices and they brought this audiobook to life with emotional performances that had it rolling like a movie in my head. Excellent performances.

Interesting read
This book started out with a bang! It did have a little bit of a slow down with the introducing of characters and back stories. But once it picked up again, it definitely got interesting. So many twists. I didn't see most of them coming! It seems everyone had a secret and no one wanted it out!! It is never a good thing when a ex shows up unexpectedly and this book is no different! Most (if not all) of the characters were unlikeable at times. But there were also relatable because no one was perfect. I enjoyed the rollercoaster of a ride that this book took me on.
I had the pleasure of receiving an audiobook narrated by Dryw McArthur and Louise Rook Schofield. They flowed together well. Usually when I listen to a book, it has one narrator. So it was a nice change to have the 2 narrators, each voicing their gender characters. Made it easier to keep up with everyone! There did seem to be quite a few characters at the beginning but I was able to adjust and keep track pretty quickly. These 2 really brought the characters to life. I was reading along with the ebook but the audiobook definitely kept my attention better.
If you love the other books by this author, I am sure you will love this one too!

So surprising and shocking!
This one is completely enthralling! It has twists I did not see coming! I was really surprised even once I thought I knew what was going to happen after the shock. I don’t want to give anything away but trust me…this is a good one! An amazing listen and I would love more from this author. Twisted psychological stories are a perfect way to end my week! I listened to this on audio. Dryw McArthur and Louise Rook Schofield are both new to me narrators. They each did an amazing job portraying these characters and I would listen to them again.

The Visit
The Visit is a psychological thriller about Vanessa and Curtis and is told from both of their points of view. I don't usually read thrillers, but I enjoyed this one.
Vanessa and Curtis have just moved to a new house, but when Hayden (Vanessa's ex) shows up things start happening.
This book had so many twists and turns as well as secrets that came out. I never knew which way it was going to go next. I would love to give more books by this author a try, and I enjoyed the narrators picked for this book.

a unique psychological thriller
I’m always up to listen to a psychological thriller. This one took me on quite the ride. I must admit I needed to pay a little bit more attention than I usually do, but the payout was worth it. It is probably one of the more unique thrillers I’ve listened to as it dips a little into fantasy. The plot is layered and surprising at times. I don’t know if I would call it twisty, but it went off where I wasn’t expecting it and surprised me over and over.
Some of the characters were very unlikable and there were a few that my thoughts bounced around on how much I liked them in addition to how much I trusted their account of things. There were moments when I wasn’t sure it was all going to piece together, but it fit like a puzzle.
There are explosive secrets and just about everyone had at least one.
I’m trying to hard to describe this but to also not spoil anything. I’m not sure where that line is but I definitely don’t want to overstep. Everyone is unreliable. The characters are relatable but not always likable. There is a wild roller coaster of a ride as it all slowly unravels. I know that makes no sense but it really does.
Dryw McArthur and Louise Rook Schofield do a great job of voicing all the characters (and there are a few) in this one. They keep everything in check and represent the right tone as the plot layers are peeled back and exposed.
