Story
Ryder, Garrett, Kenzo, and Diesel - The Vipers. Their deals are as sordid as their business, and their reputation is enough to bring a grown man to his knees, forcing him to beg for mercy. They are not people you mess with, yet my dad did. The old man ran up a debt with them and then sold me to cover his losses. Yes, sold me. They own me now. I’m theirs in every sense of the word. But I’ve never been meek and compliant.

Story
Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

Story
After watching my mother succumb to a mysterious illness, I promised myself two things. I'd find the cure for what ravaged her and leave the godforsaken city where she abandoned me. Four years later, I received an acceptance letter from Dracadia University, one of the oldest most prestigious schools in the country. Nestled on a secluded island off the coast of Maine, it's rumored to be haunted by the souls of the mental patients exiled there centuries before, those whose bones are said to make up the island's white sandy shores. And restless ghosts aren't even its most daunting peculiarity.

Not as good as previous installments, BUT...
still a great book! It just missed SOMETHING the other books had. I can't put my finger on it. Maybe because less time was spent on the bitter rivalry between Ross and George. Also, the main characters seem to have taken a back seat to the new.

Did not hold my attention
For some reason, this book did not hold my attention like the others before it in the series. The performance was excellent but I feel the storyline did not interest me.

Another Great Book in the Poldark Series
Well written , interesting to get acquainted with the Poldark children. A few interesting twists, and as always, author has a wonderful way of expressing everyday life and human emotions.

my favorite so far
Of the entire series I believe this is my favorite although I have the rest of the series to go.
In this edition Jeremy and Clowance are coming of age trying to find their way in life, at least the direction they think they want it to go. They suffer the pangs of romance although nothing gets settled in this book. Ross and Demelza are pretty solid in their relationship now and enjoying life and their kids growing up.
Their is a stranger from the sea in this book but I'm not sure why the book was named as it is. The stranger does play a part in the book but isn't the central part of the story, maybe in future books he becomes that.
I enjoyed the historical perspective in this book. The British are still fighting Napoleon and France in Europe and most Brits are tired of it and want it to end. But hearing about the war, how the people at home feel, learning how the elite and common folk feel, and how they all interact with one another makes for an interesting backdrop.
As usual, I'll look forward to the next bok in the series.

Riveting Stories, Excellent Narration
The Poldark series always tells a great story with complex and interesting characters! The narrator does a truly remarkable job of bringing a unique color and life to the voices of all the characters. Before they are even identified, I can recognize the pinched and haughty voice of George Warleggan, the warm tones of Ross Poldark, the playfulness of Demelza , as well as some of the many characters that speak with a distinct Cornish burr. An astonishing observation given that all the voices are intoned by one man! Bravo, Mr Hembrough! You truly bring this brilliant book to life.

good, but not as good as earlier books
Not as good as his earlier Cornwall books, but I was interested to learn more about the children.

listen and read!
This book stays true to the series and Oliver Hembrough does it perfectly. I judge all other narrators by his high standards
