About this listen

All Cara Parker wants is to be swept off her feet...but the way her life is going, that's not happening anytime soon. She's got a humdrum office job and a self-centered boyfriend, but those things are stable and safe. Her comfortable routine is worth more than silly fantasies of travel and romance, isn't it?

All that changes with the arrival of Ellery Chandler, a silver-haired corporate superstar and the "most eligible lesbian in the business world". Cara's encounter with this powerful, captivating woman starts off a series of events that challenge everything Cara thought she knew about herself, her life...and her desires.

In the midst of all this, gifts from a secret admirer start showing up on Cara's desk. Will giving into her feelings set her free, or will it destroy everything for which she's worked? Because getting closer to Ellery Chandler comes with risks of its own.

This wife-and-wife team of best-selling author Marian Snowe and humor writer Ruby Grandin brings you a slow-burn lesbian romance full of heart, laughs, and second chances.

abrupt end

story was great, just ended much to abruptly for the time investment on the front end. narration was terrific, top notch.

Slow burn.

I enjoy this book every time I read it, and each time afterward, Ellery Chandler remains on my mind. Her poised and controlled demeanor screams confidence, yet softens in the presence of Cara Parker, who constantly questions who she is and what she wants. Cara is certain of one thing, though. She wants Ellery. Yet, what would a rich, self-assured woman like Ellery want with Cara? Especially when Ellery could have any woman she wanted.

Sort of Cinderella

I liked the story it is a strange Cinderella story but the narrator didn’t do it any good. Her voice is simple, she has no clue how the pronounce French words.
The main character is extremely simple and admits it too many times.

It's ok

I hate leaving bad reviews and while I'm not saying this is a bad story, per the star rating descriptions above, it's ok; maybe more ok for some than others. So why is it just ok? I'm not sure if it's the main characters or if it's the performance. The funky non-Vermont/New England accent took away from the story for me. Her performance is fine...the accent threw me and that might be more about me than her performance. That being said, the main characters didn't pop for me. I've listened to a number of lesbian romance novels over the past couple of years and most paint a vivid, vibrant portrait of their characters in my mind's eye. These characters barely touched the canvas for me.
