Acerca de esta escucha

She possessed a stunning beauty. She also possessed a stunning mind. Could the world handle both?

Her beauty almost certainly saved her from the rising Nazi party and led to marriage with an Austrian arms dealer. Underestimated in everything else, she overheard the Third Reich's plans while at her husband's side, understanding more than anyone would guess. She devised a plan to flee in disguise from their castle, and the whirlwind escape landed her in Hollywood. She became Hedy Lamarr, screen star.

But she kept a secret more shocking than her heritage or her marriage: She was a scientist. And she knew a few secrets about the enemy. She had an idea that might help the country fight the Nazis...if anyone would listen to her.

A powerful novel based on the incredible true story of the glamour icon and scientist whose groundbreaking invention revolutionized modern communication, The Only Woman in the Room is a masterpiece.

Wow! Hedy LaMarr was much more than a pretty face (although she had that too). I cannot believe the life this woman lived. She was married to some pretty powerful men. She was a Hollywood star. She was an inventor that helped military solve problems that other scientists couldn’t. She really lived an amazing life. Wow!
It’s worth the credit!

What A Woman!!

I still have a childhood memory of seeing Hedy Lamarr on a very small screen. Even in fuzzy old black and white film she was gorgeous. The Only Woman in the Room set that childhood memory into motion as if in a new movie. It is very well written and the content is of Oscar winning quality. I couldn't wait to get back to it.
This was excellent timing for such a book. In the era the Me, Too Movement and the Times Up movement, we learn the story of a woman whose beauty was a source of adoration and abuse by men who claimed to adore or love her. That beauty turned out to be a doubled edge sword, as beauty so often is. Only her superior intellect, seldom seen by the people around her, saved her life. Woven together, world politics and personal background gave her wealth and fame that simultaneously threatened to destroy her. It is hard for anyone to calculate by any means the courage of this brilliant woman. My heart was thumping even though I knew she had made it to safety. The writing was excellent, blending the deeply personal emotions and thoughts that motivated and activated the courageous life of Hedy Lamarr.

I enjoyed the story, but found it rushed and uneven after Hedy left Europe. To me it ended in an odd place, but that might be my personal taste.

This was my first book by Marie Benedict and I found it a wonderful read. I had no idea that Hedy Lamar had the background she had. I, very shallowly, thought of her mostly as a beautiful movie star. This book definitely opened my eyes and reminded me that we never know what someone goes through unless we walk in their shoes. Ms. Lamar faced life and all of the obstacles it threw at her head on and came out the victor. She was a magnificent woman who gave everything she had to humanity. I was amazed at the scientific things she accomplished.

Fantastic

This is your book. History exposes women of decades ago whom where really the me too movement. They fought with grace intelligence and true strength not using the media to expose and destroy but being even more venomous.

this book was a complete eye opener. You just meet a woman from Austria before the war. You end up thinking that you need to rethink how you look at how you look at people. The different personas that each person has and the fact that people get pinholed into one. It is a great women empowerment book!
