Acerca de esta escucha

From the author of The Other Einstein, the mesmerizing tale of what kind of woman could have inspired an American dynasty.

Clara Kelley is not who they think she is. She's not the experienced Irish maid who was hired to work in one of Pittsburgh's grandest households. She's a poor farmer's daughter with nowhere to go and nothing in her pockets. But the other woman with the same name has vanished, and pretending to be her just might get Clara some money to send back home.

If she can keep up the ruse, that is. Serving as a lady's maid in the household of Andrew Carnegie requires skills she doesn't have, answering to an icy mistress who rules her sons and her domain with an iron fist. What Clara does have is a resolve as strong as the steel Pittsburgh is becoming famous for, coupled with an uncanny understanding of business, and Andrew begins to rely on her. But Clara can't let her guard down, not even when Andrew becomes something more than an employer. Revealing her past might ruin her future - and her family's.

With captivating insight and heart, Carnegie's Maid tells the story of one brilliant woman who may have spurred Andrew Carnegie's transformation from ruthless industrialist into the world's first true philanthropist.

A clever novel based upon some of the history of one of America’s most benevolent entrepreneurs .

Excellent book for book clubs.

I was pulling for a different ending, but enjoyed the story. The immigrant story was examined from so many angles it was almost dizzying. I would recommend it, but not in the top 10 list for the year. I enjoyed it but never felt gripped by the book as a whole.

Insightful immigrant experiences

Marie Benedict is a masterful writer. We thoroughly enjoy her books. They are made even better by the narrators that are chosen. Alana Kerr Collins added immensely to the richness of this story.
This is the third book of Marie Benedict’s that we’ve enjoyed on Audible. Each story is so captivating that we feel we are right there in the story! Keep writing Marie!

Great Story! Without knowing the background, I found myself believing the storyline and life of the characters. Highly recommend!

Refreshing to know something inspired Carnegie to share his wealth and provide for all people

Rags to riches

I found myself hoping it was more fact than fiction. I loved how it transported me from the present back to a time that is as alien to us as we would be to them.

Great book

A story opaque with the distance of time but translucent with present understanding, this book is an example of how the reward of one's actions should not be sought for one's self but how the ripple affect of scrupulous actions can benefit so many others.

This should be made into a movie. What a grand story. It shows a woman’s intellect ,courage and fortitude. A woman that put family and self respect before everything.

Movie material.

Nice story with a good performance. Not sure if the fiction element was close enough to actual history (for my taste).

Pleasant Story
