Story
In this extraordinary best seller, James Hillman presents a brilliant vision of our selves, and an exciting approach to the mystery at the center of every life that asks, “What is it, in my heart, that I must do, be, and have? And why?” Drawing on the biographies of figures such as Ella Fitzgerald and Mohandas K. Gandhi, Hillman argues that character is fate, that there is more to each individual than can be explained by genetics and environment. The result is a reasoned and powerful road map to understanding our true nature and discovering an eye-opening array of choices.

Story
In this challenging and entertaining audio program, internationally recognized Jungian teacher and theorist James Hillman, Ph.D., presents the themes he writes about in his well-known book, The Soul's Code. The fantasy of the family remains the dominating theme of psychotherapy and psychotheory. In this recording, Dr. Hillman brings his critical eye, his wide eye - and often his absurd humor - to bear upon the myths that operate in our thoughts about family.

For a world that over the past century has witnessed horrors the like of which could not have been imagined by earlier generations, Job’s cries of despair and incomprehension are all too recognisable. The visionary psychotherapist Carl Gustav Jung understood this and responded with this remarkable book, in which he set himself face to face with 'the unvarnished spectacle of divine savagery and ruthlessness'.

The Dilemma of Depth Psychology in Relation to Social Change

Story
Hillman refers to soul as “a perspective rather than a substance, a viewpoint toward things rather than a thing itself”. The value of seeing beneath, between, and beyond to achieve new perspectives for learning, integration, transformation, and growth was a personal challenge for Hillman, who claimed depth psychology can be summed up in one excerpt from Heraclitus: “You could not discover the limits of the soul (psyche), even if you traveled every road to do so; such is the depth…of its meaning."

Story
In 1952 C. G. Jung published a paradoxical hypothesis on synchronicity that marked an attempt to expand the western world's conception of the relationship between nature and the psyche. Jung's hypothesis sought to break down the polarizing cause-effect assessment of the world and psyche, suggesting that everything is interconnected. Thus, synchronicity is both "a meaningful event" and "an acausal connecting principle."

The Eden Project is a timely and thought-provoking corrective to the generalized fantasies about relationships that permeate our culture. In the image of the black sun, Marlan finds the hint of a darkness that shines. He draws upon his clinical experiences - and on a wide range of literature and art, including Goethe’s Faust, Dante’s Inferno, the black art of Rothko and Reinhardt - to explore the influence of light and shadow on the fundamental structures of modern thought as well as the contemporary practice of analysis.

Story
Published first in 1912, Psychology of the Unconscious was one of the most important stepping stones in the development of Jung’s thought and practice. It has a long subtitle: A Study of the Transformations and Symbolisms of the Libido. A Contribution to the History of the Evolution of Thought. This expressed the underlying impetus - a break from the view of the libido and its functions as taught by Sigmund Freud, which Jung had earlier adopted. It was from this point that the two approaches, which came to be known as the Swiss and Viennese schools, emerged.

With compassion and insight, Thomas Moore offers a compelling case for an easier, lighter way of moving through life by experiencing the peace, calm, and openness of emptiness. Through ancient and modern stories, Moore gently shows that our constant multitasking may not be getting us anywhere, and that emptiness is not a lack but an invitation that can be our greatest teacher. A daily awareness and appreciation of the quiet spaciousness in our world and our own lives is not a retreat from reality but a rich and full welcome to all that is most meaningful and real.

Publisher's summary
Volume III of Dick Russell’s monumental biography, The Life and Ideas of James Hillman, takes up the final decades of the pioneering depth psychologist’s explorations of “Soul in the World.” Hillman’s twenty-three-year relationship and ultimately marriage to visual artist Margot McLean provides the backdrop for the diversity of his wide-ranging pursuits—where the aesthetic and the imagination become central motifs for the founder of archetypal psychology.
Hillman’s cultural explorations resulted in six provocative books between 1991 and 2004, including The Soul’s Code that became an international bestseller. He also took up themes of therapy, the business world, aging, ecology and war. In public lectures he traversed a still broader path, delving into everything from architecture to pornography.
This volume examines, through the eyes of the participants, the controversial Festival of Archetypal Psychology at Notre Dame University. It analyzes the complex and often fraught relationship with German psychologist and Jungian analyst Wolfgang Giegerich. It looks at Hillman’s unique collaborative efforts with Thomas Moore, Michael Ventura and bell hooks, along with Hillman’s penchant for making unusual friends.
Why was Hillman more popular in Italy and Japan than in his native America? His many travels to, and deep affinity for, these two vastly different countries is explored in depth. Was Hillman a good analyst? A compelling classroom instructor? What kind of father was he? Interviews with many of Hillman’s patients, as well as colleagues at the institute where he taught and with several of his children, reveal the man’s strengths as well as weaknesses.
The biography culminates with Hillman’s surprising discovery that his predecessor C.G. Jung’s Red Book presaged where he was seeking to move psychology. In his eighties, how Hillman faced physical failings and ultimately death serve as life lessons for anyone confronting their own mortality.

It’s not just you. Stress levels are at an all-time high—so much so that a recently convened panel of medical experts in the US has recommended that all adults under the age of 65 be screened for anxiety. In How to Release Anxiety, Gabby Bernstein offers simple, actionable steps for feeling better, living with more ease, and showing up for those around us. Gabby’s unusual advice: Rather than manage your anxiety, what if you befriended it? Gabby posits that what we befriend, we can ultimately be at ease with. So she invites us to get curious.

Story
These days, no one in America feels immune to violence. But now, in this extraordinary, groundbreaking book, the nation's leading expert on predicting violent behavior unlocks the puzzle of human violence and shows that, like every creature on earth, we have within us the ability to predict the harm others might do us and get out of its way. Contrary to popular myth, human violence almost always has a discernible motive and is preceded by clear warning signs.

Story
James Hillman was a past master of alchemical psychology. This field uses metaphors derived from ancient alchemy to elucidate deep structures in the creative imagination. Creative processes are not random. By studying alchemical psychology we come to understand ourselves and other humans in surprising ways that frequently diverge sharply from the habitual understandings we have unconsciously absorbed from the cultures in which we were raised.
