About this listen

Intent on winning a Lowlander's tournament, Bran MacLeod travels south with his laird. All goes as planned, except spirited Miss Enya Ross continually distracts him, and in the oddest situations. With no business lusting after a baron's daughter, Bran decides to return to Raasay - until his laird pledges Bran's services in the fight to reinstate Mary, Queen of Scots to the throne.

Enya has no deference for the lines of nobility, or for the Great Divide that separates Lowlanders from Highlanders. The way Sir Bran's eyes hunger for her ignites an internal fire Enya cannot quell. All her life she's wanted adventure and excitement, but now her every thought is consumed with the rugged Highlander.

With all odds stacked against them, can their forbidden love withstand the tumult of war and the menace of betrayal?

The narrator ruined it for me

Would you listen to The Highland Henchman again? Why?

I enjoyed the book although the story was a bit repetitious of the first in the series.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Why do these series have to keep changing narrators?? You get used to one narrator and then get slapped in the ear with a new one and you have to learn all over again the voices of the characters. And the narrator of this book used such a thick accent for many characters, especially in the beginning, that you couldn't even under what he was saying.

Great story but poor wrap up.

I loved almost everything about this book but the ending was a little disappointing. There was no/little consequences for the "villains". I hope more is explained in future books, I'd enjoy seeing certain characters get what they deserved both the good and bad.

Everyone Needs a Highland Henchman

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The Highland Henchman by Amy Jarecki is the second book in her series, Highland Force. She knows how to build an exceptional plot filled with characters you will have no choice but to love. Bran and Enya's beautiful journey into the Highlands is an amazing adventure and love story in one. It's the story of Bran, who has pledge his service to his laird in the fight to reinstate Mary, Queen of Scots to the throne. Amy Jarecki literally captures the Scottish essence and again got me pulled into her story filled with romance, passion and betrayal. Bran MacLeod our sexy knight and highlander travels south with his laird into the highlands for a tournament. Bran’s intent on winning Lord Ross’s Lowlander's tournament, but Bran is distracted by Lord Ross’s daughter Miss Enya who seeks adventure and is very adept with her bow and arrows. Miss Enya is as confident as any Lowlander and she continually distracts him, and in the oddest situations. So what can go wrong when the two meet and fall in love! I loved the character of Enya, she was a spirited and strong female lead and her chemistry with Bran was undeniable and sizzling to read about! Bran know he has no business lusting after a baron's daughter, Bran decides to return to Raasay that is until his laird pledges Bran's services in the fight to reinstate Mary, Queen of Scots to the throne. Their story is filled of adventure, love and betrayal. Will Bran be a pawn in Enya's father's scheme? Can a highland henchman be a match for lowland lass?

What did you like best about this story?

Amy Jarecki creates engaging characters that go through incredible odds to be together. There are lots of twists and turns in the plot so it keeps you guessing.

What does Brad Wills bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Listening to Brad narrate Amy's book just brought the story to life. His narration always brings the wonderful story to life with his many voices. There were times I laughed cheered and then I cried. I felt as though I was living every minute through his narration of the story. He captures the Scottish essence with his Highland brogue; his many voices are fantastic!!!

What happened to coming full circle?

Well, the story is itself was your average highland romance. It added some grit which made it seem more accurate to what could happen during those times. The narration was great.
The problem? It seemed like the author ran out of time writing the book and literally typed up an ending at the last minute. This is why I gave it three stars

Too much brogue too fast

The narrator used much to fast a voice when doing dialogue. And all his women sounded like whiny caricatures.

Also, near the end a twist occurs that, if an ally did to me, I'd never forgive. Ever. And it's only a moment in passing. A friend causes something unforgivable to happen to his woman. It was glossed over as though barely a problem in merely a few conversations. Utterly unbelievable. And it ruined the ending. For me, the remainder of the story would have been a vendetta against my former laird.

Other than that, I really liked the characters of both the hero and heroine.

Struggled with this one.

I’ve listed to dozens of Scottish based novels and while this one has a great story the narration is awful. I had to slow the narration speed down because he speaks so fast, then I had to repeat many sections to try to understand what he was saying with his garbled words. I will avoid this narrator going forward.

Breathe Taking Romance - loads of intrigue!!!

****Spoiler Alert:
I felt for Enya when she was .brought to the Nuns. She lost her Child but it was not Collums's fault, he did not know she was with child.

Amy Jarecki, is fantastic author and she provides so many twist and turns that you feel connected to the characters.

This is the second book in the series and I can not wait to read the third. So much intrigue...don't hesitate to listen to the story. Bare with the narrator, he does an excellent Scottish accent but it takes until chapter two to fully grasp it.
