Short book, thoughtful ending

This is a very short book set on a distant world. It starts out with action and captured my interest right away. It has a thought provoking ending. The book leaves you wanting more.

The narrator did a great job. I enjoyed listening to him.

The pain of going home.

I enjoyed the short story despite it being very sad. The storyline moved along at a fast pace and I enjoy the main protagonist and antagonist. The side character in the blue-skinned girl was also interesting. The narration was crisp and clear and fit the context of the story. A very solid short story. I was given a free copy of this audiobook (by my request) by the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is a very short story.

After listening to this very short story, I found that I enjoyed it. The narrator did a bang up job bringing the characters to life. I did like the story line even though the story was very short. I think that Benjamin could have made it a lot longer by defining his characters better and really build up his timeline. I did enjoy this read and look forward to seeing if his stories get longer and better. I think he can do it easily.

Interesting, but also depressing

While I absolutely loved this story after I received a free copy of it, I do want to stress that this is not a feel-good story. Given how I'm reviewing this during the COVID pandemic, I know many people may instead want to pass their time with a happier story.

That said, if you're open to the darker stuff, Dunes of Tyree is a solid way to pass an hour. The narrator is excellent and really manages to capture the moods of the piece. It's interesting to listen to the story and the main character unfold, as you figure out exactly what happened to make him the way he is.

There's also all the fun and not-so-fun world-building, such as a Terran empire looming in the background, details of space stations, various alien worlds mentioned... One of the coolest innovations mentioned in the text was a timer pin you could put on the side of your head and set it for instant sleep. I kind of want one now.

Just a quick, slightly spoiler-ish warning... this story does contain elements of suicidal ideation and depression and mentions of genocide.

Starts off slow paced, but picks up towards end...

This short story felt a little like a teaser, as I am left wanting to hear more. This could make an excellent prequel, or a character novella, even a great bridge story for a before series and an after one. I Iiked the narrator's character voices; however, the narraration part was a little too monotoned for me. I enjoyed this audiobook, and it had my full attention by the end.

A decent way to spend an hour

This was a great short story. I wish it had had an editor to correct the waffling tenses. I found it distracting. The narrator, however, did a fantastic job. I’m glad I took the time to listen to it, as the story was engaging & poignant. An additional cool detail, I found myself thinking of the face on the cover at the end of the story & pondering it. That’s the hallmark of a good story: it stays with you & makes you think.

Short, and brutal!

Space encounter, of the lesser being up against the sadistic bullying tactics of a tyrant.
Too short to get a true understanding of the main characters.

Amateur story with decent narration.

Inconsistent tenses, no real purpose, very shallow and inconsequential storyline. Really not sure why anyone went to the trouble of recording this, but I can't recommend it.
