About this listen

Earth’s first colony ship finally reaches the target world. The excitement of planetfall is indescribable, but quickly transforms into sick disappointment when they find the atmosphere is a roiling mass of hydrochloric acid, carbon dioxide, and other deadly poisons.

They fly onward, seeking better planets. They find them, but none are ideal. The search goes on for a century, then longer still. As they move farther from Earth, aliens discover the intruding ship, and they begin to investigate humanity. They find our species unacceptable.

The years and the light-years go by without relief. The colony begins to splinter. Some accept that their voyage is eternal, while others seek to end it any way they can. The colony’s culture grows darker, and a war begins, both inside and outside the vast ship.

What lives among the stars we see at night? Can we reach out to them and survive? Find out in Black Phoenix, a story of exploration, colonization, alien contact, and civil war by Wayne Wightman and B. V. Larson, best-selling SF authors with over three million copies sold.

Average

Meh. Story had good potential. Likely Larson’s work. But never goes anywhere. The narrator is average. But his Rocky Balboa impression is spot on.

Not Larsons best

I usually love most of his work but found myself ready for this one to end

Good Sci fi read

If you want a story that rolls on and keeps you interested, this is very good. I listen to audio books and stories like this are easy and fun to listen to. As is usually the case in a good book it is about the characters as much as the story. This is well performed. They are believably voiced characters.

Inventive inspiring new twist

BV Larson and his team has put together a new twist to space exploration and drama.

Coming up with characters that have a positive flow of being themselves as the character into the situation that surrounds them and remaining true to their identity Beebe Larson and his team has created a new series that will keep you on the edge of your seats and hours of enjoyment. Ok

Generation ship meet death cult meet fuzzy aliens

This standalone work is an interesting mix of multiple genres under a sci-fi roof. Good.

good story

I could hear the narrator while driving, some voices I have trouble with not this one. I enjoyed the story and it seemed to follow the line of other B V. Larson stories that I have listened to.

B V Larson's worst book on audio.

I'm a huge Larson fan having listened to many of his different series, but this was just bad. I had to force myself to finish this simply because I paid for it. The story was slow, uninteresting, and made no sense. The narrator was just bad. As to why Mark Boyett wasn't chosen is beyond me. Listen one of Larson's better series such as Starforce and avoid this.

Uggggh

Poorly developed plot and characters. Story was worse... Either unfunny spoof sci-fi or written by a 7th grader. Waste of an audible credit. Worst SF book I've listened to.

I'll try to be nice

I feel the story could of been written better, some times it sounds like a teenager wrote it. The narrator could put a bit more feeling into the story and that may have made it better. I listened to it a quarter of the way and had to stop. To me it's just a boring listen.
