About this listen

In Susan Wilson's The Dog Who Saved Me, former Boston K-9 unit policeman turned animal control officer in bucolic Harmony Farms is up against rescuing a gun shy and wounded dog gone feral, and proving that his low-life older brother is back in the drug business.

Boston police officer Cooper Harrison never thought he'd go back to his hometown, Harmony Farms. But when his faithful K-9 partner Argos is killed in the line of duty, Cooper, caught in a spiral of trauma and grief, has nowhere else to turn. Jobless and on the verge of divorce, he accepts a offer for the position of dog officer in Harmony Farms, leaving the life he spent twenty years building behind.

And so he finds himself back where he started. Where his father was once known as the town drunk and his brother outgrew juvenile delinquency to become a drug dealer. Where he grew up as 'one of those' Harrisons. Cooper does his job with deliberate detachment, refusing to get emotionally invested in another dog the way he had with Argos-until he finds himself rescuing a wounded and gun-shy yellow lab gone feral.

Cooper never thought he'd find himself going back in order to move forward, and yet Harmony Farms is the one place where Cooper must learn to forgive and, only then, heal. All with the help of a yellow dog.

Sharon Fieker

I love law enforcement stories, as well as dog stories. Covering both in the same book was awesome. Listening to the Audible version was an added bonus, as the emotions seemed much more real, and I have to admit I shed some tears throughout.

the dog who saved me

Absolutely fantastic story. Loved it! nothing better than a good dog rescue story. One exception-not to keen on the abuse written in but it WAS only a story and on paper.

Enjoyed

Easy listening and although predictable I enjoyed the story. I might try another by the same author.

Like visiting a good friend

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Most of my friends love dogs. This book would be enjoyed by any one of them.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The main character, Cooper. He was broken. I've been there. I could relate...

Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've not previously listened to this narrator, but liked him very much. Smooth masculine voice came across as an easy listen.

If you could take any character from The Dog Who Saved Me: A Novel out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Bull, Cooper''s father. He also was broken but well worth rescueing.

Damn good book...

Very enjoyable and love the story line. Emotional and at times brought a tear to my eye not many books can do that to me. Mahalo (Thank You in Hawaiian) for a great and written book.

Good story

I bought the book because of the yellow lab on the cover, but I am pleasantly surprised that it was a good story. I’m a sucker for books with dogs, specially with lab retrievers.

Loved it.

So many great characters, dogs, horses, people with all kinds of problems…..loneliness, heartbreak…! I couldn’t get enough. The main character was strong and broken and k8nd.

Precious story of a Loving Golden

Hearts that are closed off because of loss and fear of even more hurt would love and have a deep understanding of this story. Susan Wilson I think understands brokenness. That’s why she is the storyteller that I love.

Wonderful Story For Animal and Police Supporters

I really liked this story and the narration was good. It covers a variety of emotions and how the characters handle loss and the grieving process. It is relatable to anyone who has ever lost a beloved partner.
