Fun 2nd book in kids series -- Great narration
This is the second installment in the 'Wierdbey Island' series by Eldritch Black. It's a kids series with paranormal elements. I enjoyed the story in the first book better, but I'm coming to love the main protagonist and his three chums. I'm interested to see where the next adventure will take them. I was previewing this for my 7 year-old nephew. I think the series is a little advanced for him yet, but I'll hold onto it for him and share it when he's a couple of years older.
The narrator, J. Scott Bennett did a wonderful job throughout the book. He was able to use unique voices for the many characters, even a dreaded Jackalope!

Another great story about Weirdbey Island
Love the story and the characters. There are some references to book one, but it is not necessary to listen to the first book to enjoy this one. However, we really enjoyed both books one and two.
The narration is excellent. We enjoy this narrator alot.

More fun to be had on Weirdbey Island
This was a great follow up to The Pirates of Penn Cove. And once again, I really appreciated that it is a stand alone. It might help to have read The Pirates of Penn Cove, but I think one could start with this book and still follow along and enjoy it just fine.
The Day of the Jackalope seemed a bit more geared towards kids to me than the first one did, but even as a full grown adult I had a lot of fun experiencing it. Some nice themes about being yourself, and more importantly, the power of believing in yourself.
Scott Bennett, as usual, did a fabulous job with all the voices. While I missed the pirate accent from book one, there was a still a lot of great character voices to hear in this one.
I'm looking forward to hearing more from both Eldritch Black and Scott Bennett and the adventures of the Weirdbey Island gang!

looking forward to more
Enjoy the style of the story... I think it lived up to the first book. There was a moment or two I zoned out but for the most part it held my attention. Dylan and Joseph faced their fears.... I wouldn't mind reading more of this series.... see the kids grow in their new secret society....

Think hardy boys meets sandlot meets supernatural
This is book two in the series can be read stand alone but will be better enjoyed having read the first one. So you have a small group of kids who have formed themselves into a club to hunt down the supernatural myths and legends Of their area. Perhaps though they have bit off more than they can choose in their quest for knowledge that is perhaps best lost. Enjoy this thrilling adventure and like me eagerly await the next of their adventures...fans of scooby doo will enjoy this without a doubt (even though there is no taking dog). Are Jackalopes real?
This is the second book in the Weirdbey Island series, but can be read as a standalone. The intrepid group of kids from the first book is once again involved in a supernatural event and has to save everyone on Whidbey (Weirdbey) Island from the danger of a mind-controlling visitor to the Island. People are disappearing, but nobody seems to be concerned. Also, a huge tent has appeared in town and residents are flocking to see the mysterious fortune-teller. Everybody who visits the tent leaves extremely happy, shouting that they are going to be rich. But, Dylan and his friends don't think that the happiness or predictions of fortunes are real.
When Dylan encounters what appear to be a Jackalope in the woods, he and his friends decide that they are the only ones who can figure out what is really going on. But will they be able to get to the bottom of the mysterious happenings before all of their family and friends become mind-controlled rabbits?
I am much older than the target age for this series, but I find these books to be hugely entertaining. Eldritch Black has a wonderful writing style and keeps the pace moving rapidly to keep younger readers engaged. He also has his characters facing their fears and realizing that they are stronger than they think, which is a good lesson for all of us. The narrator, J. Scott Bennett, does a great job with his performance and added a lot to my enjoyment of the book. I would recommend this book for readers/listeners of all ages, especially those who are fans of books like those in the "Goosebumps" series.

Interesting story
So honestly I began listening not realizing this was the second book of a series. This put me in an odd starting headspace as I had no clue what some of the references were and who all these established interactions were affecting.
Now that I’ve finished the book I can say that I’m not as concerned about not having read the first book. It probably would have helped the beginning make more sense initially, but by the middle I was totally fine. This was an odd tale in the sense of Alice in Wonderland type weird. The story had an odd pace but it was quick enough that it kept you interested. There wasn’t any profanity or inappropriate situations which leads me to think this would be a solid read for anyone who enjoys reading. Really you don’t kids might struggle or get a bit scared by the suspenseful bits, but really a 8 year old or older would enjoy this book no trouble. Despite my experience, definitely go back and read the first book first!
I’ve listened to other performances by the narrator and he has good rhythm and his voice differentiation could be better. He does have better differentiation when he does accents or stronger pitch differences.
