About this listen

From USA Today best-selling author Leonard Goldberg comes The Daughter of Sherlock Holmes, a new thrilling tale of the great detective's daughter and her companion, Dr. John Watson Jr., as they investigate a murder at the highest levels of British society.

England, 1914. Joanna Blalock's keen mind and incredible insight lead her to become a highly skilled nurse, one of the few professions that allow her to use her finely tuned brain. But when she and her 10-year-old son witness a man fall to his death, apparently by suicide, they are visited by the elderly Dr. John Watson and his charming, handsome son, Dr. John Watson Jr. Impressed by her forensic skills, they invite her to become the third member of their investigative team.

Caught up in a Holmesian mystery that spans from hidden treasure to the Second Afghan War of 1878-1880, Joanna and her companions must devise an ingenious plan to catch a murderer in the act while dodging familiar culprits, Scotland Yard, and members of the British aristocracy. Unbeknownst to her, Joanna harbors a mystery of her own. The product of a one-time assignation between the now dead Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler, the only woman to ever outwit the famous detective, Joanna has unwittingly inherited her parents' deductive genius.

Sherlock stories continue!

As a devoted Holmes fan, I found this story superb. The audio presentation was also excellent...one of those where I stay in the car long after the trip is done, just to hear more. Enjoyable from start to finish!

Interesting premise but ....

A mildly interesting "light read". The language seemed stilted sometimes. What really put me off was early on when she made a major deduction based on a "Physics fact" that was just wrong. Objects do not fall at (a constant velocity) of 32 ft/sec. They accelerate at 32 ft/sec^2. Duh. I've got a PhD in Physics, but anyone who took High School Physics should have noticed that one.

A Remarkable Book

Truly exceptional! I enjoyed this more than any other book in my recent memory. Also, the narrator was remarkable - he used voices of a boy, a mature and an elderly man, a woman, and other assorted characters. He was so good, it is hard to believe that only one speaker was involved. I hope I can find other books spoken by him.

absolutely fantastic

I loved this sherlock story! I completely recommend it to any sherlock fan. the story far exceeded the narration, however the narrator s accent was right on target for the environment of the scenes unfolding. very very clever to include the next generation of all the old characters ❤️

Enjoyable with some predictable moments

Overall I enjoyed the story (and I always explore Sherlock Holmes based stories.) There are some elements that require a suspension of disbelief at the unbelievable “coincidences” and some sections of dialog that are just silly, but it was still worth the credit. I’ll look for the next in the series (but I don’t think this is equal to the Mary Russell stories, at least not this one.)

Not extraordinary

This was a very tedious read/listen. Everyone other than the main character was beyond idiotic. Hearing Watson claim her to be “extraordinary, remarkable” etc was getting intolerable and like the author was commending his own wit.

Having the characters exuberantly deduce something that was already all spelled out makes it seem as if the writer thinks the audience are completely witless.

One fact would be known and a whole set of assumptions and stories would follow without actual evidence which doesn’t seem very Holmes like and the end plot was improbable in a plethora of ways.

A really great read!!!!!!!!

I’m always hopeful when I start a new series of books, unfortunately I’m often disappointed!!! Not with this book!!!! It was very entertaining and written in the style I love to read. The characters were very interesting and the story kept my full attention the entire time. Not once did I have to flinch because of profane language!!!! Can’t wait to read the next book in the series!!!!

Wonderful!

I enjoyed this audiobook from beginning to end! Although this and future stories could never compete with the original Sherlock Holmes stories, they will, I’m sure, capture the excitement.
