About this listen

In the early hours of Christmas eve, a young girl hides in doorways seeking refuge from the icy streets. But London is not kind to orphans and paupers and survival can exact an unthinkable price.

On Christmas Eve in 1881, eight year old Luella Morris is suddenly and tragically alone in the world. Blue with cold from the icy winds, and shuddering in doorways for shelter, Luella is discovered by Agatha a cunning street girl and learns to survive the seedy backstreet alleys.

Yet London has many dangers for a young street child, and soon Luella must forge a new path alone, and prove her own worth on the streets, but now she must hide a shocking secret, which threatens her very survival.

Frank Smith sweeps streets and tumbles to supplement the family income. When he meets Luella with not so much as a jacket for warmth, he does what he can to help but when Luella disappears off the streets without warning, he fears she is lost to him.

As Luella flees one of the toughest gangs in London, her path unexpectedly crosses with Frank. Can Frank find a way to help Luella or is Luella destined to perish on the streets of London?
