About this listen

Who couldn't resist the lure of a treasure map and the prospect of untold riches? But, as George and Flanagan are about to discover, treasure hunting is a dangerous business. The stakes couldn't be higher as Tam McMaster, local bigwig and "first man of Ballymagee", plans to build a new property development exactly where "X" marks the spot.

Can George and Flan stop the development and save the treasure? And, more importantly, can they stop the destruction of a beauty spot that is a safe haven to Ballymagee's wildlife?

Along the way, George must convince Katie and Dougie to help him battle his own demons as the curse of the mysterious White Lady strikes again.

Slow, slower, snail paced adventure

As a child, I gobbled up books and found there were never enough good books to read. In this age, it seems like they’re more plentiful, but quality is slacking.

The first half of book was painfully mundane at summer camp. We get the back ghost story, a snippet of a ‘haunted house’ that summer camps are notorious for including and valuable lessons how friendships grow and change, but with this tagged as an ‘adventure’, the book description is a disservice.

It is a stand alone book in the series. I had not read the first one; nor is it available in audio. The references to the kids’ first adventure is more abundant than necessary.

Is it a teens book? I would disagree. Maybe for upper elementary school aged kids, but definitely not for MG. The characters were very immature for the 11-13 age group its geared towards. I even felt the characters were younger than their age.

By the time I had less than 2 hours to go, I think the pace and real meat of the book started, but I too often tuned it out. The characters has long lost their luster and the connection was buried in the graveyard.

Vocabulary, grammar, and structure was sound but the story and imagination were lacking.

I’m not sure who I would recommend it to, but I didn’t dislike it to the point I’d discourage anyone from picking it up.
