About this listen

A flawed man, a mute girl, and a spirited dog could be humanity's last hope - or its doom.

It's the end of the world, but Reg won't mind the peace and quiet - after all, he's always lived a solitary life. And his happy-go-lucky dog, Lineker, is ecstatic to spend more time with his beloved owner. Together, they plan to wait out the impending doom in their second-floor apartment, hiding themselves away from the riots outside.

But when an abandoned orphan shows up in the stairwell of their building, Reg and Lineker must leave their place of safety and accompany her into the ruins of a fallen city. In their desire to rescue the child, both man and dog must face the guilt of the past and discover a hope for the future....

This is a gem.

Not what I expected, but it's the best book I've read in some time. It was like picking up a shining piece of glass only to discover it's a diamond.

Intense Fun

To be honest, I don’t like futuristic or “The end” survival stories. And dog stories are usually too cutesy for me. However, I throughly enjoyed this book. A little too much vulgarity, but easily overlooked. The narrator was too strong on the hackney accent- but the author had so many redeeming qualities that I loved it anyway.

Layers of depth

This is not a book would have bought or used a credit for. It looked interesting, but it’s not my usual style of novel and honestly I only downloaded it because it was free. However, I am so glad I did. I enjoyed this book thoroughly. The depth of character of Lineker (the dog) was surprising and delightful, and I fell in love with him immediately. I enjoyed the other characters as well. Below the surface of this heartwarming, sometimes funny, sometimes heartbreaking story, is a brilliant and beautiful allegory of human nature, prejudice, and the choices we make that define a life.

Great story with great narrators

This book was hilarious, heartbreaking, hopeful, and philosophical. I loved the insight into a dog's mind and how he experiences the world. There were times when I wanted to yell at Reginald (the human), but stick with him... everyone needs time to find the courage to be better, especially when they've gone so long stuffing down their own emotions. This book has some difficult themes but the most beautiful resolve. I laughed and cried and laughed again. Highly recommend.

Loved this book.

I have read a ton of apocalyptic stories but this was my first with a dog’s view. Hearing part of it thru the dogs voice was great. And the narrators were both really good.

Suspenseful adventure story

It was a little unusual to hear the point of view of a dog in the story but after a short time it became normal. The dog had an interesting metaphysical philosophy on life, it was fun to think that such complex thoughts could be running through my dog's head! I really genuinely cared about the characters and they went through a lot of trials in this book. I was hooked.
