One of my favourite episodes in the series

Another enjoyable installment in the Texas series and—despite the title—the Christmas season doesn’t feature heavily in the story. Yes, there are some lovely moments when the Campbell-Hayes family choose a tree and decorate it, as well as the giving of presents. The greatest early gift for Riley and Jack is that Max is now part of their family and they find the ideal nanny to look after the children. Jack and Riley’s relationship goes from strength to strength and they still manage to enjoy their special alone times. Robbie and Eli, the other romantic couple on the ranch, are also happily settled. Life seems to be very good.

The main focus this time around is on Liam, who was introduced in the previous story. The poor lad has a sad past of rejection by his family and sexual abuse from his previous employer. With the support of Jack, Riley, and Marcus, who is now gently pursuing him, Liam reveals all and faces up to this past. Liam gradually learns to trust other men again and takes a chance of Marcus. Ahh...

Sean Crisden continues with his superb narration and characterization of the multitude of personalities. Great job as always.

It's Christmas time at the Campbell Hayes home!

I thoroughly enjoy each and every new story in this series. Scott is able to weave several different characters and storylines without the story itself getting bogged down or feeling strained. The people at the Ranch are a rag tag, motley crew, mixed bag of family. This installment adds Liam along with his dark past and the promise of a future with a man a decade his senior. All while allowing the reader to keep tabs on Riley, Jack and their ever growing family and, or course, Eli and Robbie who have managed to become a permanent fixture at the Ranch.

There is love, mystery and an added dash of suspense to this story but the love is the most important part. You see, it doesn't matter who you are, where you've come from and what darkness you keep hidden... Riley and Jack Campbell Hayes will open their home and hearts to you without question or judgement. Just don't mess with their family.

Sean Crisden continues to tell the story of this family and manages to add a little something different for each character, giving them their own voice in the story. Definitely a must listen, but you must start with the first book so that you can enjoy the ride.

Awesome Holiday Read

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Frankly, I'm not sure what I can say that I haven't already said about Texas Christmas(and the whole Texas series) in my many re-reads. I will say that as much as I enjoy audiobooks, I rarely review them as I find myself zoning out getting distracted by what I'm doing, even when its a book that I absolutely adore so I end up having to listen to a book 2 or 3 times before I get everything. Now that has nothing to do with the story or the narrator, that's just how I'm wired.

As for the story, well as I said above there's nothing I could add here that would express my love for Jack and Riley Campbell-Hayes and the whole Double D universe more than I've already said in my many re-reads of the series. So I'll just say this: getting to see the boys, their family and friends at Christmas is just beautiful add in the newest members to the Double D, Liam and Marcus(because of his pursuit of Liam), is both heartbreaking and heartwarming.

As for the narration, well Sean Crisden's voice is perfect for the Double D universe. This is actually the first Texas book I've listened to but I have heard other books read by Sean and his voice is lovely to listen to and I just want to reiterate that my tendency to zone out is not down to him. Truth is I can't imagine anyone doing a better job at bringing life to Jack and Riley's journey.

Texas Christmas

Texas Christmas is the fifth book in RJ Scott’s Texas series. This series must be read/listened to in order as it follows the lives of Riley and Jack Campbell-Hayes and their family. I’ve read and listened to this series many times and every time I fall in love with it more.

Nothing is simple in the lives of Jack and Riley and in this fifth book, that constant remains. I love each of these books and experiencing the family being built. Jack and Riley’s love and life is strong. I absolutely love that this follows the life of Jack and Riley and we get to see them grow as a couple. And with the addition of Max, they quickly become a family of six. And don’t think because Jack and Riley are settled into their lives and parents that they don’t still steam up the pages, they do!

In this book, we get the follow up with Robbie and Eli and how their relationship is continuing to grow. They have a home at the ranch and in the lives of Riley and Jack. We also learn more about Liam and his abusive past. We see Liam willing to explore his feelings with Marcus, despite his fear and the struggle each man has with this new relationship.

Sean Crisden is a fantastic narrator that brings this story to life! Even when I read this story, I hear his voice narrating it in my head because it’s perfection! He is able to give each character distinctive voices and is consistent with the use. He has a pleasant voice, keeps a great pace and is clear and concise is his narration. He conveys emotions through the characters and lets the focus be on the story and characters, not the narration.

I love that even though each book is a new addition to the soap opera, that the love remains constant. The drama comes from outside, not that the couples don’t have their differences, but they know how to handle each other and work through their issues. If you’ve never listened to this audio, or read this series, I’d highly recommend it! Though I love both the books and audiobooks, my preference is the audiobook. It’s easy to fall into the story, shut out the outside world and just be part of the Campbell-Hayes family.

This series is wonderful, narration is great.

I've read all of the Texas series books and LOVED them. Texas Christmas is book 5 and when I found out that the audio version was available I was eager to listen to it.

I'm fairly new to the world of audio books. I always thought that I'd much rather read a book than listen to one. What I've come to realize is that the narrator/performer can make all the difference to my enjoyment of the story. This is the second book I've listened to performed by Sean Crisden; both of them were written by one of my favorite authors, RJ Scott.

I listened to the first book (The Rancher's Son – a book I read and loved) immediately after listening to another book; an historical M/M story with a wonderful narrator. When I listened to The Rancher's Son, performed by Sean Crisden, I didn't enjoy it as much as the historical. What I now realize is that it was just too big of a shift to go from historical to contemporary western without a break between the two of them.

As I listened to Sean perform Texas Christmas I was amazed by how perfectly he nailed the different characters' voices. I was totally pulled into the story again and felt so connected to the characters; it was a fantastic experience. I'm now a big fan of Sean's audio performances and he does perform, not just narrate.

As for the story, I can't say enough good things about books by RJ Scott and the Texas series in particular. Texas Christmas is about Liam, who came to work at the "D" in book 4, Texas Family. While you might be able to listen to (or read) Texas Christmas without having read any of the preceding stories I don't recommend it. All of the books are interwoven and one builds on the other with different couples taking center stage but with Jack and Riley also being a large part of the story.

It's hard to describe/review just this one story without getting too long winded about the entire series. I'll just say that if you've read and/or listened to any of the other Texas books you won't want to miss this one.
