Publisher's summary

Gage Bradford met Allison Johnson soon after he graduated from law school. Theirs was a whirlwind romance. He fell hard and fast and wooed her with all the charm he could muster. In a month, they were engaged, and six weeks after that, they were married. Moving to Washington, DC, he set up his law practice and soon moved up the ladder to success.

But when the stock market crashes and he loses everything, they move to Allison's inherited farm in the Appalachian Mountains. Now, instead of Allison feeling out of place in high society, he finds himself inept and out of his element in a remote mountain cabin. However, it would turn out to be a learning experience in more ways than one, and he would change more than he ever imagined.

An amazing lesson!

Gage and Allison fell in love. Fast. Married and moving to Washington DC to start their life, Gage assumed Allison would meld from farm girl to the wife of a lawyer with no issue. And while she attended all the functions, she never felt that comfort of being part of that world. Little did he know how the tables would turn. With the crash of the stock market, the two lose everything and go back to Allison's family farm which she inherited. Here Allison was in her element, but was Gage? Not knowing the first thing how to maintain the property, he now has the chance to see exactly how Allison felt. How did she adjust and not complain? Will their love be strong enough for him to understand the changes in their lives? A little faith goes a long way and that is all I will say. This is a fabulous story, showing exactly how life can through a curve ball, and the only answer to adjust and hit it out of the park! Allison is a wonderful character, loving unconditionally and doing whatever it takes to make Gage happy. Gage has a lot to deal with. The feeling of defeat, confusion and self worth all play a part as he finds his new relationship with God and life. It's fabulous.

Jared Walters is the perfect fit for this book. I love his voice for these historical romances, and he finds the true feelings of each character. They are portrayed with care and give all the emotions. I loved it.

Encouraging book about contentment

I love the story and how strong the wife is without taking over or being bossy. She is content in every situation and leans on the Lord for her strength. Great narration that brought the characters to life and kept me wanting to listen more!

Great one

Good book. I listened to this one on audio. I like the riches-to-rag story instead of the typical rags-to-riches.

Another Great Story in this series!

I loved this story and the narrators do it wonderfully! I've listened every chance I've gotten. I love how the author puts this series together, while making each story separate, they tie in together too. Emily Rose being her grandmother was awesome! The same house even that Emily Rose lived in! Loved this story and the man's journey to God!! God is so so good!! These stories are fun and remind us of God too which is awesome! Thanks for another great novel!

Learning to be content

How would you react if you lost everything? It seems it might be a possibility in these days, just as it was during the depression. This is a wonderful story of what people actually experienced in that period of time. Wealthy people became poor, poor people became poverty stricken. This is a book takes you through this time with two families, their willingness to work hard, and share the fruits of their labor. . . except for Allison's husband, Gage. He hated living in the mountains, hated not knowing how to survive, hated that Allison and their neighbors had to teach him the simplest tasks. But God was there, and Allison was praying. The book inspired me to think about what my reaction would be. Am I depending on God in our troubled times or do I trust in the world? This is a very skillfully written book, combining history and realistic characters and content. It is also very captivating, hard to lay aside.

The narration was also very good, bringing the story and characters to life.

I requested this audio book from the author and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Life Changing

While listening to Taking Stock, you realize how you perceive your life. Gage is on top of the world after graduating from law school. He meets Allison and they are married quickly. She is from the Appalachian Mountains and is thrown into the Washington DC life. Allison feels like a fish out of water. When the stock market crashes and they lose everything, they head back to a remote cabin in the Appalachian Mountains, and now the tables are turned, Gage is the one that feels lost. Circumstances make Gage learn how life can change everything, even your perspective of your life.
I was given an audiobook copy of the story by the author for an honest review.
