About this listen

A brutal murder, a suspect in jail, and an execution planned - but what if the wrong person is about to be killed?

When a fellow US Marshal asks Anita Blake to fly to a tiny community in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula on an emergency consult, she knows time is running short. When she arrives, there is plenty of proof that a young wereleopard killed his uncle in the most gruesome and bloody way possible. As the mounting evidence points to him, a warrant of execution is already under way.

But something seems off about the murder, and Anita has been asked for her expert opinion on the crime scene. Despite escalating pressure from local cops and the family’s cries for justice for their dead patriarch, Anita quickly realizes that the evidence doesn’t quite add up.

Time is against Anita, as the tight-knit community is up in arms and its fear of supernaturals is growing. She races to uncover the truth and determine whether the Marshals have caught the killer or are about to execute an innocent man - all in the name of justice.

better than the last book

Well it seems like the spark is back in the book. Definitely an improvement over the last book. Its was good to seem more of the secondary characters come out. I was also happy it wasn't another go over there, fill full of lead, and done. There is more depth to this book like when Laurell K. Hamilton first started it seems to me.

Love the series

I’ve read all the books in this series and wait not so patiently for the next book whenever I finish one. This one did not disappoint. It’s an odd series, admittedly but if you start from book one and have an open mind you get action, sex, humor, and strong character build up. The author makes sure the characters grow like real people and doesn’t just hand out cookie cutter happy ending like many other books out there. It’s a sick and twisted series but well worth the read but none of the books work stand alone. If you read this review without having read any of the series do not start here of with any book but book one. There’s to much you miss and you won’t understand anything that’s going on.

I absolutely loved this book. Anita is back to being the crime solver, strong female character I loved in the first books of the serie.

Wow, one of her better stories (SPOILERS below)

So. Amazing narration. Kimberly Alexis does another fine job.

The story was one of the best LKH has written, made better with the no sex to distract from it. The talk about sex with Olaf...huh. Anita's attraction to him, as well as her dislike grows in this tale, so much conflicting emotion. I will be surprised if she doesn't sleep with him at some point, unless the series ends.

The way the story told of the inequities of the law when it came to the way it was used against the Therianthropes (I still prefer Lycanthropes), felt overly done from time to time. Leduc's incompetence was truly astonishing to me, as if he was intending the murder of Bobby all along.

I think it would have been a better ending if Bobby had lived and Jocelyn had been fully exposed to the world. Maybe that didn't happen because the case needed to be a failure in order for Anita to want out of the system even more than she wanted the perks her badge gives her.

I don't know much beyond I am intensely curious as to the direction the next installment will take.

I was reading and listening to the tale at the same time. And I'm about to do it again. Nice long day planned out entirely. Yes!

good read

Best one in a while. I've been reading this series for a while and I almost stopped because it became more about the sex than the story. I'm excited to see what's going to happen next...is Ted going to be like Anita?!?!

Laurell K Never disappoints

loved this book! first time I've done the audible version of one of the Anita Blake stories and I absolutely loved it! As always the characters are awesome I can't imagine keeping so many characters in my head never mind Anita keeping so many in her bed. the mystery part of this book had me jumping around he did it she did it no he did it... til the end... well close to the end. I had, as I always do, my LOL moments, my oh no moments and my I'm not crying you are moments. All in all loved it.
