About this listen

A horrific recurring nightmare is threatening to steal her sanity....

Dr. Corinne Cabot is living the American dream. She's a successful ER physician in Chicago who's married to a handsome husband. Together, they live in a charming house in the suburbs. But appearances can be deceiving - and what no one can see is Corinne's dark past. Troubling gaps in her memory mean she recalls little about a haunting event in her life years ago that changed everything.

She remembers only being in the house the night two people were found murdered. Her father was there, too. Now her father is in prison; she hasn't been in contact in years. Repressing that terrifying memory has caused Corinne moments of paranoia and panic. Sometimes, she thinks she sees things that aren't there, hears words that haven't been spoken. Or have they? She fears she may be losing her mind, unable to determine what's real and what's not.

So when she senses her husband's growing distance, she thinks she's imagining things. She writes her suspicions off to fatigue, overwork, anything to explain what she can't accept - that her life really isn't what it seems.

Difficult to follow

A lot of moving parts, but moving in a strange way. Not too realistic, but enjoyable.

It is dark or mostly alludes to it.

Although there are “dark” parts and it’s horrible, the author is there briefly and it’s then more about the psychological effects. I thought it was well done even if again it’s awful. And I absolutely love when I never see a twist coming! Knowing it’s something doesn’t mean knowing and I only saw all the clues after the reveal. There are so many emotions for all the characters in this story. It’s definitely a really good listen!

Narration was really good. She was able to capture all the emotions the characters were conveying and many were deep!!

Couldn't stop listening!

This is my first time using audiobooks and I'm glad Suck Dark Things was my choice! I finished it one day! I had my head phones in and I was hooked. Great thriller and characters.

Now that’s a dark psychological thriller

Finally a story that’s not afraid to deliver the dark the not always a happy ending Very good story. Not predictable

Ludicrous

This was so bad. Convoluted plot with a nonsensical twist, overwrought writing and narration, explicit sex and vile language. I think the author started out with a decent plot but the editors said to make it more violent, more explicit and as sordid as possible. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.

Not for me -

I feel that this book has been rated way too high. I do not like overly dramatic readers and the female was too dramatic in her reading of this book of too many inconsistencies. I had it figured out about 10% in. Lots of filler added at the end that actually contradicted the earlier writing - like who filled out the paperwork to admit Corrine to the mental health facility.

Don’t waste your time.

I listened to this book because it was advertised by Audible. I can’t remember if it was a recommended listen or what, but I recommend that you don’t listen to it. It’s a waste of time. It’s not captivating and it’s too slow. Not interesting. This book did not hold my attention at all. I only continued to listen to it because I paid for it and I wanted to write this review about it. The female narrator over did it. The male narrator was good. I didn’t like that the story line didn’t flow...it hopped all over the place.

Can't finish it

I like to give books some time. I read this author's I'll Be Watching You and I couldn't put it down. I'm going to put this one down. I'm bored, wondering where it's going. So far it's just weird with weird characters. I can put up with a certain amount of weird but this one is going nowhere.

Narrators are OK. I usually don't like 2 different narrators but it's better than one butchering the voice of the opposite sex.

Porn Dressed up as Thriller

Too much explicit sex, over and over and over. Too little other story. Won’t be looking for this author again.
