About this listen

An Amazon Charts bestseller.

Her own past could be a reporter’s biggest story in this twisting thriller about murder and family secrets by the New York Times bestselling author T.R. Ragan.

Plagued by traumatic childhood memories, crime reporter Sawyer Brooks still struggles to gain control of her rage, her paranoia, and her life. Now, after finally getting promoted at work, she is forced to return home and face her past.

River Rock is where she’d been abandoned by her two older sisters to suffer alone, and in silence, the unspeakable abuses of her family. It’s also where Sawyer’s best friend disappeared and two teenage girls were murdered. Three cold cases dead and buried with the rest of the town’s secrets.

When another girl is slain in a familiar grisly fashion, Sawyer is determined to put an end to the crimes. Pulled back into the horrors of her family history, Sawyer must reconcile with her estranged sisters, who both have shattering memories of their own. As Sawyer’s investigation leads to River Rock’s darkest corners, what will prove more dangerous - what she knows of the past or what she has yet to discover?

This town should get condemned

Sawyer Brooks left a terrible town after some significant childhood trauma. There's no chance that she should have ever returned but of course, she goes back to attend a funeral. While there she begins investigating old cases because hey, why not? Thus she uncovers all of the things that should have remained buried. Without giving too much away, there's a secondary plot that follows a vigilante group of women who are going around attacking/seeking vengeance on men that have raped and tortured women. If you need a book to give you a women's empowerment anthem this group is your group. While we cannot condone their actions (publicly) I must say when someone loses his member I applauded. Girl Power.

Some charm but over the top in many ways

I like the three sisters and their interactions and understand the repercussions from their abuse. The characters have some charm.

But some things are just over the top. Like a suspect is arrested and it takes reporter Sawyer very little time to find a robust alibi for him. What, the police wouldn’t have checked this guy’s alibi? It’s just silly. Also (spoiler alert), you basically have three different serial killers in one story, like they’re a dime a dozen. And, they are all uncovered by our young, inexperienced, emotionally damaged, intrepid reporter, and in a matter of weeks. Just too much.

Ridiculous story

A young reporter ends up solving countless murders when police can't even solve one. This is so outrageously impossible, painting the police as so dumb they can't even think of checking surveillance videos. Truly a huge disappointment.

Good book about revenge!

My first book by this author and I liked it alot. I like stories in which the bad guys get what's due! Sweet revenge... however, the only thing I wished for was the narrator's Male impression to be a bit more solid.

Good one overall

This book had a good story line and kept me involved. I was a bit surprised by the ending, I was looking elsewhere.
My only issue is I have a had time warming up to any main character that hasn't got it all together. Sawyer had a bit too much baggage for me, making her rather needy. That didn't gel for me with the type of work she was trying to do. I prefer a more stable and strong personality in that role. But I guess her issues made her unique. She just wasn't my cup of tea.
