About this listen

In this powerful entry in the number-one New York Times best-selling series, Mercy Thompson must face a deadly enemy to defend all she loves....

My name is Mercedes Athena Thompson Hauptman, and I am a car mechanic.

And a coyote shape-shifter.

And the mate of the Alpha of the Columbia Basin werewolf pack.

Even so, none of that would have gotten me into trouble if, a few months ago, I hadn’t stood upon a bridge and taken responsibility for the safety of the citizens who live in our territory. It seemed like the thing to do at the time. It should have only involved hunting down killer goblins, zombie goats, and an occasional troll. Instead, our home was viewed as neutral ground, a place where humans would feel safe to come and interact with the fae.

The reality is that nothing and no one is safe. As generals and politicians face off with the Gray Lords of the fae, a storm is coming, and her name is Death.

But we are pack, and we have given our word.

We will die to keep it.

Tired of listening to stories about humans? Consider the werewolf! Taking various forms over the course of centuries and mythologies, often as flesh-devourers, werewolves now commonly appear in fantasy and romance novels as shape-shifters. The shape-shifting element in werewolves' stories has almost humanized them, depicting the internal struggles we all face within ourselves, on some level or another.

Nice visit with some characters

This wasn’t my favorite of the series and given how much I was anticipating the release, it didn’t quite measure up. Still it was wonderful to spend time with characters I’ve grown to love. It’s takes its time building the story. It may have been slow but I enjoy Brigg’s writing enough sit back and let her take me on the ride she intended.

There are definitely some cool set ups in place for future stories and I enjoyed seeing Mercy continue to develop.

Don’t start the series with this book 🙃

Definitely not a good book to start this series. I’ve read and reread all of the books and I almost felt the need for a scorecard at times. The action gives you very little time to catch your breath. I’m very interested in what the changes in Wolf’s character may lead to. Mercy’s relationship with Coyote continues to intrigue. Highly recommended.💖

Another Great Addition.

This universe is a lot of fun. The characters are well written and familiar. Really feel like you are connecting with them on an individual level. Sometimes I wonder though if it is not the voice that really brings it all together. I don’t think that I could actually read the books as I now need Ms. King to read them too me. Looking forward to the next one.

ALWAYS EXCEPTIONAL!!!!

I never tire of the Mercy Thompson stories!!! I cant wait for the next one!!!!! one of the things that makes me come back to Mercy Thompson is that she is a strong female character. Not because she is female and throwing her" hear me roar" stuff everywhere, which I hate about female led books, but because she is strong and allows the strength of others to shine through. she doesn't put down male characters or complain about feminism. She's like Die Hard. Always in the wrong place at the wrong time and wishing someone else would take care of the problem. or rather always in the RIGHT place at the RIGHT time. She does what she thinks is right. And Adam is the kinda man I would want!! Alpha make in all, but in an awesome way!! loooooooooove these books!!!!!

Two Alpha wolves and Mercy's choice

Mercy is caught between Samuel and Adam, both alpha wolves who want to claim Mercy as a mate, but Mercy's indecision is causing stress for everyone as the tensions between the two alphas spill over into the pack. I really enjoy listening to Lorelei King, she is so good at voices, plus she gets the nuances of each character.
