Publisher's summary

Vicki Nelson, formerly of Toronto’s homicide unit and now a private detective, witnesses the first of many vicious attacks that begin plaguing the city of Toronto. As death follows unspeakable death, Vicki, in an attempt to stop these forces of dark magic, is forced to renew her tempestuous relationship with her former partner, Mike Celluci - along with another, unexpected ally…. Henry Fitzroy, the illegitimate son of King Henry VIII, has learned over the course of his long life how to blend with humans; how to deny the call for blood in his veins. Without him, Vicki and Mike would not survive the ancient force of chaos that has been unleashed upon the world - but in doing so, his identity may be exposed, and his life forfeited.

Terrible Narrator

Would you try another book from Tanya Huff and/or Justine Eyre?

I think I would have enjoyed this book more if it hadn't been for the terrible narrator. I don't know if she's supposed to sound sexy or what, but it sounds to me like she needs to clear her throat, and open her mouth enough to get the words out. I don't know why she is out there ruining perfectly good books.

Would you be willing to try another book from Tanya Huff? Why or why not?

I would love to READ a book by Tanya Huff. The story was great, and I like strong female characters, but as the rest of this series is read by this dreadful Justine Eyre, I won't get any more audio books unless I discover another series. I will just have to read it myself once I can distance myself from that VOICE!

What didn’t you like about Justine Eyre’s performance?

Her voice is awful, and she doesn't emote, and her men are worse than her women!

enjoyable

a story which has endured through the changing times. I quite enjoyed it the only downside was the tremolo the reader put in each voice every time they spoke it became annoying to the point of distracting from the story

Good characters, good premise

What did you like best about Blood Price? What did you like least?

I liked the characters and the plot or premise. The first 3/4 of the book were interesting.

The last 1/4 Vicki finds out that the girl she works for was the girlfriend of the first victim, close friend and last one to see a later victim common since says if you have no other leads you checkout everything to do with her relationship with the two. Since she was the last to see her friend before she died wouldn’t the police take a statement with everything that happened up to the point of the murder. Another reason to check the lead out is her friend, the victim was “choosen” unlike the others. Instead of this lead they all pass around the lead the murderer wears a black leather coat, really. Vicki is suppose to be the best excop ever?
The vampire gets the message to meet her and who the suspect is and he sits waiting for a phone call for the address or to confirm... for Four hours. He could have found out where the guy lived and went himself, waiting for a call Four hours, really. The world will end at twelve he waits by the phone until10:30.
The last quarter of the story was not good.

Would you recommend Blood Price to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes, it was the best of the last five books I have bought.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

She was good. You could tell the difference in characters. She could work on her men's voices a little. I always compare narrators to Tavia Gilbert, Kirsten Potter and Jennifer Ikeda.

Do you think Blood Price needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I really liked Viki, Henry and Mike. They could have another supernatural murder to solve.

increasing playback speed made it better.

Our narrarator Justine Eyre leaves a lot to be desired. Her male voices can be distracting, but she did an alright job with female dialog. She uses a lot of vocal fry. I found that bringing the playback speed upto 1.15x made my listening experience much better.

I enjoyed the pacing and structure of the story. Tanya Huff is great at urban fantasy and I did enjoy the world building and characters.

Lovely story by the wrong voice

The story is good and I really enjoyed it. I do think Justine Eyre is the wrong choice for reading the book, but that is just my personal preference.

This is abridged.

I have loved this series since it came out. The biggest disappointment for me is that this is abridged and not the complete book. If you liked listening to this, I would recommend reading the full book! I would love to hear a Dramatized Unabridged version 😍

Enjoyable

Being a fan of the Blood Ties TV series, I thought I would see where it all began. I was surprised how closely the series held to this book. As with any adaptation, there are differences, but overall, not bad. I enjoyed it. The narrator, Justine Eyre, was adequate. I have heard better, but I have also heard worse. I look forward to seeing how the rest of this book series compares to the TV show.

Blood over the city.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yeah the narrator.

Would you recommend Blood Price to your friends? Why or why not?

I would recommend the books to read, because the narrator didn't know what she was doing.

What didn???t you like about Justine Eyre???s performance?

Justine doesn't have a clue about narrating books.

Was Blood Price worth the listening time?

Yes because I like the series on books.

Any additional comments?

Change the Narrator and you'd have a good series.

It is not BloodTies

Story
The story of the novel is good, it follows the two part episode (pilot and second one) of the TV show BloodTies. This was first, bloodTies was made from the books. The story is enjoyable, moves at a good pace and has a few twists to it. The characters are also well done.

Performance
The reader on this book is just not that great. I have bought other books with Justine Eyre as the reader and have liked them. I do not know if its just a bad fit, or something else, but the reading does not tie in with my view (after seeing the TV show) of what the attitudes and tones of the characters should be.

Overall
This is a good story, but with a reading that really does not match up to the tone that I would have expected. A vampire should sound a bit more energized and a Private Investigator that is to be determined and unstoppable in her pursuit of the truth needs some, well unstoppable tone and energy. Its just not there. I would get the book and read it, it is good but the reading is not so much so.
