Publisher's summary

Food is considered a necessity which we require to live. When does it become our nemesis? Sure, the necessity is there, but there are so many tempting foods out there that we know aren't good for us, but we can't resist the urge to indulge. Sure, you eat because you're hungry, but might you also be eating when you're stressed out? Had an exceptionally bad day at work? Or just bored? Do you know how to enjoy your food, not only for the sake of making you feel better? Those treats you like to indulge in aren't bad, they just need to be eaten in moderation.

Eating has grown to become an enjoyable pastime, gathering together on holidays and special occasions, bringing the family together, and creating family traditions with meals you prepared, passing on those secret family recipes to the next generation. Cooking simply to fulfill a need isn't the way the majority of people look at food today.

If you are emotionally eating to fill a void in your life, why do you turn to food? Do you realize you are even doing it? It can effect men as well as women. This audiobook is going to explain what exactly emotional eating is, why you do it and how you can control it. For the sake of your health, don't let food control you anymore—take back your control.

Not for everyone

I was a little disappointed because this book was giving a different approach to controlling eating habits than I was looking for. However, while I'm sure this would be very helpful to some people, I wanted to learn more from the spiritual point of view and God's way of controlling my addiction to food. His advice might be helpful in conjunction with that. I think I've decided that to find my answers I will have to continue to study God's word on the subject of self control. I would still recommend this book for people with eating problems if you just want information about it. I did learn a few helpful things.

The narration was good.

I requested this audio book from the author and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Stop it face!

Really enjoyed this quick listen. I don't think there was anything groundbreaking but I enjoyed it listening on my walks. I did gain some insight and strategies to stop. I actually really like the length of the audiobook. I can easily relisten when I need a reminder.

All the work is compiled .

Newman has researched (documented with web sites at the end) emotional vs physical hunger, binge eating, diabetes, etc. Of note, he mentions fad diets and how quickly they come and go. You choose the type of eater you are and he defines the health ailments or benefits. This is not preachy. He has searched the web and put together uncomplicated facts to improve overall well-being. He can't supply motivation, but did list options.

I received an Audible promo code and listened, trying to take notes. Eventually, a first for me, I bought the paperback from Amazon for about $8. Newman's thought processes clicked with me, and I believe his print book will aid in grocery lists, and help cement the info in my brain.

Four stars as I just couldn't connect with the narrator. I did forge on as I blindly accepted a promo code, otherwise I'm not sure I would have finished. I do believe a female narrator is best.

Enjoyable listening

I had already read the ebook which was so well-written and full of helpful information, and I bought the audio version for this non-fiction. The narrator was good and pleasant to listen to, and I picked up other useful and practical tips that I had forgotten. It was enjoyable to just sit and listen this time on mindful eating, taking care of yourself, gaining control, and changing eating habits.

Great information

Everyone knows what the real secret to weight loss is, diet and exercise, but it's still hard for so many, including me. The information helps identify what causes over eating and offers tips on how to overcome it. There is great information to help you be more aware of the subtle ways you're coerced into making bad decisions which I never really noticed before. The book offers so many different ways to help change eating habits. Some of it is familiar and a good portion of it was new to me. I feel an extra bit of motivation after listening and I am definitely passing this on to others around me that could also use the guidance.

Good in some aspects

There were some good parts talking about emotional eating, but there is a lot about basic nutrition and diets. I think the average listener of this would be aware of what foods are good for you and not. The problem with stuffing your face isn't knowing that it's bad for you, but the uncontrollable urge to do what you know it bad in order to soothe feelings.
