About this listen
The reunited Jedi prepare to strike back against the ruthless Nihil in this thrilling sequel to Star Wars: The Eye of Darkness.
For over a year, Jedi Masters Avar Kriss and Elzar Mann were kept apart by the Nihil’s Stormwall. After Avar makes a daring escape from inside the Occlusion Zone, the star-crossed Jedi are reunited. But while the physical distance between them has evaporated, their shared grief over their failure to protect the galaxy from the Nihil threat remains.
To rally the Jedi Order and the Republic, Avar and Elzar cling to their belief in serving Light and Life. Together, they lead a daring mission into Nihil space to liberate the planet of Naboo and show those trapped behind the Stormwall that the Jedi will never abandon them. Now back within close orbit of each other, the two Jedi Masters can no longer deny the bond that has always drawn them back together and made them stronger.
After finally embracing their true desires and imbued with renewed purpose, Avar and Elzar devise a plan to turn the tide of the conflict with the Nihil once and for all. Accompanied by Jedi Knights Bell Zettifar, Burryaga, and Vernestra Rwoh, the Jedi begin their hunt for Marchion Ro. But to seek out the Nihil’s dangerous leader, the Jedi will have to survive the Nameless terrors that thus far they have been powerless to stop.

On the planet Tython, the ancient Je’daii order was founded. And at the feet of its wise Masters, Lanoree Brock learned the mysteries and methods of the Force - and found her calling as one of its most powerful disciples. But as strongly as the Force flowed within Lanoree and her parents, it remained absent in her brother, who grew to despise and shun the Je’daii, and whose training in its ancient ways ended in tragedy. Story
The Force is everything. A single life connected to all life. All things connected to all other things. This is what the Jedi believe, and this is why they fight. For life . . . and the light. For too long, the light has been threatened by Marchion Ro, a sinister despot who will stop at nothing in his quest for power. The conflict with Ro and his marauding Nihil forces has left scars across the galaxy and held the Republic hostage. Countless lives have been lost, beacons of hope have fallen, and the collective courage and resolve of the Republic have been tested like never before.

Story
Obi-Wan Kenobi has not been apprenticed long to Qui-Gon Jinn, and he is chafing at Qui-Gon's training style: all meditation, no action. Obi-Wan yearns to prove himself on a mission, but when he and Qui-Gon are finally set to leave on an assignment, Qui-Gon is nowhere to be found. Angered by his master's abandonment, Obi-Wan sets out on the mission alone, determined to prove himself. On a mysterious planet he encounters a pack of feral, Force-wielding teens who seem to be the planet's only inhabitants.

Padmé is adjusting to being a wartime senator during the Clone Wars. Her secret husband, Anakin Skwyalker, is off fighting the war, and excels at being a wartime Jedi. In contrast, when Padmé gets the opportunity to see the casualties on the war-torn front lines, she is horrified. Meanwhile, with Padmé on a secret mission, her handmaiden Sabé steps into the role of Senator Amidala, something no handmaiden has done for an extended period of time. While in the Senate, Sabé is equally horrified by the machinations that happen there.

One of the High Republic's Best!
I don't usually give a 5 star across the board but this one deserves it and more. Easily one of the best High Republic novels.

Amazing! Marchion Ro is a MANIAC!
Such an improvement over the last HR book I read, Defy the Storm. Loved this so much. Marchion is so much more interesting in this than he was in Eye of Darkness. The romance was great and felt believable and real. The battles sprinkled throughout felt surreal, viscous, and paint an amazing picture in your mind. Loved this and can’t wait for the last book in the adult line of HR books. If you don’t like how Disney has handled Star Wars in recent years, then the adult HR books are a MUST read. So good!

Outstanding. Intriguing
Another great HP story. So much wonderful character development and raising and changing of stakes. Can't get enough!
The book does an excellent job of continuing the overall plot of phase 3 and many of its most important characters. The Jedi are further humanized and represented as multi-dimensional characters. This is a must read for fans of the high republic.

Amazingly written & preformed
I find my self very happy with this book. I’ve listen to all of the Star Wars books and this one is up on top. The writing is very nicely done. You feel like you’re there. It definitely could be made into a movie and when I watch it I will have been able to say did I see this. For it’s depicted so well(if you want to feel like you’re watching a movie put it to 1.35 speed. And as always a narrator can make or break a good book. Marc Thompson never disappoints he brings it to life for you. The struggle to breath the pain, everything. Worth a listen 100%

Solid THR Phase III Entry
I give it 7.5/10
I found first half or so very middling and slow; lots of filler and time spent on supporting characters that didn’t really impact the story.
I’m also not a huge ‘romance’ guy, like…at all, but I found Avar and Elzar’s arc to be well-written.
Porter is a beast and I need more of him in stories lol
The political angles of Ro and Soh were interesting, and Starros’s internal conflict was understandable, especially when her daughter confronts her on it all.
Marc Thompson remains the undisputed master at narration, so no complaints there.
The action at the end was pretty well paced, and Gratton dis well enough to keep me engaged.
Overall I found it to be like the ‘B-C range’ novels of the EU. Not terrible, but not overly fantastic either. Solid and entertaining, definitely a worthy successor to Eye of Darkness, which was likely a daunting task for Gratton given how utterly amazing that one was
