Publisher's summary

In this captivating and transformative tale, the life of Sebastian takes a dramatic turn when a curse is unjustly placed upon him by an innocent woman, whom the superstitious villagers label as a witch. Little does Sebastian know that this curse will reshape the course of his existence, marking him as the inaugural Lycan, the first of his kind. As he grapples with the newfound challenges of his lycanthropy, he is faced with a consequential decision that alters the fate of his closest friend, transforming him into a werewolf.

Breaking ties with his past, Sebastian embarks on a journey to uncharted lands, seeking a fresh start and leaving behind the stigma of the cursed life he now leads. Amidst the uncertainties of his new reality, love blossoms, adding a layer of complexity to his journey. However, the tranquil romance is soon overshadowed by the looming threat of an impending war between the Lycans, Sebastian's kind, and the vampires. The stakes are raised even higher as a formidable adversary, the powerful Drakulis, enters the scene, casting a shadow over the already tense supernatural conflict.

As Sebastian grapples with the intricacies of his curse and the challenges of leading his kind into an imminent war, the narrative weaves a tapestry of re-imagined contemporary fiction. The choices he makes and the promises he keeps become pivotal in this gripping narrative, where the line between right and wrong is blurred, and the consequences of one's actions reverberate through the intricate dynamics of the supernatural realm. This reimagined contemporary fiction explores themes of love, loyalty, and the burden of leadership in the face of an inevitable and perilous war.

Great story!

I liked how the story pulled me in from the beginning. I wanted so many time to go ahead to see what was going to happen. Sebastian getting cursed by a witch was the least of his worries. I was completely taken back by the way it ended. Can’t wait to see what else this author has to offer.
The narrator did an amazing job to where I could keep up with each character.

ok, my interest is peaked

This is the first time i have read anything from this author. I do like Ballinger's word choice and style- there is a Victorian Era feel to the wording used. The storyline was hard to follow at times, but I think that might be because I am listening to these books out of written order. Though the timing of this book seems to be the origin story of the Lycan Breed that was created in the first book of this series. So I will be going to the first book that is about one of the sons introduced in Sebastian's story.
There is a basic werewolf vs vampire theme, but I want to know why. I feel like the story was a bit rushed. I would love for it to be expanded, which I think it has been in the various mini stories I see listed by this author. I will definitely be working my way through them to find out more about the characters in this story. It definitely has perked my interest to listen to more by this author. The narrator i think was well suited for this book.

I requested and received a free audio copy, and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

My kind of book

I really liked how this book started off with the witch, showing how she cursed Sebastian. I enjoyed the details on how he changed and the science behind when there was going to be a full moon, but of course keeping in mind when this was written for. Especially how people travelled back then. Then the Dracula, how he could transform into mist and travel that way and at that sudden speed. I really enjoyed the creativity there. Then time would pass and the story would pick up with Sebastian or the one he turned. It ultimately lead to them being lonely and wanting to have more of their own kind around. Sebastian did it for companionship while the other did it to make more and in the end that caused problems with the vampires to wage war on the lycans. so Sebastian and the other two ran again, this time back to where everything started. Then more time passes, Sebastian has two boys, the vampires find him and the war breaks out. you'll have to listen to see what happens next.

The narrator in this one is perfect for this book. Each character has their own unique sound so you can tell them apart which I feel is important. I look forward to his work in the future.

The Swanson line begins...

The Swanson line begins withis tale of the first Swanson turned Lycan. The audience follows the growth of Swanson and the lycans as well as the vampire poltics in the background as time passes and war draws near
