About this listen

A Scottish legacy...A political rebellion...Two hearts destined to meet...

Raised in his father’s image, the Earl of Stanfeld is practical and disciplined. There are no gray lines interrupting the Gideon’s black and white world. Until his mother has a dream and begs to return to her Highland home.

Alisabeth was betrothed from the cradle. At 17, she marries her best friend and finds happiness if not passion. In less than a year, a political rebellion makes her a widow. The handsome English earl arrives a month later and rouses her desire and a terrible guilt.

Crossing the border into Scotland, Gideon finds his predictable world turned upside down. Folklore, legend, and political unrest intertwine with an unexpected attraction to a feisty Highland beauty. When the earl learns of an English plot to stir the Scots into rebellion, he must choose his country or save the clan and the woman who stirs his soul.

Gideon

Gideon met his match, but he had to convince her of it. I loved Lissie, and felt she was the perfect fit for Gideon, and he worked hard to make her see it too. I enjoyed finding out about the "gift" (visions) in the family line. It added a nice twist to the story. One fire after another to put out- literally and figuratively. but it leads to a hea. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator voice and expressions brought the story to life.

An entertaining historical romance

Rhapsody and Rebellion is an entertaining, historical romance with a bit of mysticism between a highland widow and an English lord with a Scottish mother.

The narrator of the audiobook does a pretty good job, though I found his narration a little bit too stuffy.

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Lizzie and Gideon

After losing her husband Alisabeth is introduced to Gideon [Earl of Stanfeld] who turns out to be her late husbands cousin. There is an immediate spark between the two but, with the recent death of Ian will they be able to get over/through all the odds and be together. Alisabeth so carefree and Gideon is a bit of a stuffy Lord. This book is loaded with drama, humor, action, suspense and some of magic. Reading about the Scottish legends, folklore and traditions from the Highlanders history was amazing!! What happens with/to Gideon and Alisabeth?? Do they over come the odds?? To find out you really need to read this book. I truly loved this book!! Thank you Aubrey Wynne for a very beautifully written story!! Thank you Kevin Archer for the awesome job you did in narrating this book!!

Clean

While this is a clean historical romance, it isn't dull. Some of the events are based on real events which I found added to the story. I will definitely try other books from this author and narrator.

Opposite attracts, so it is written.

He was the son of an English Earl, and a daughter of a Scottish Laird.
She had been his Scottish cousin's wife, before his death in an Edinburgh riot.
He came to Scotland on his mother's vision, used his gift when it was required, to assist the righteous in their quest for legal assistance.
Together they would be unstoppable.

Enjoyed the History

I have just recently become acquainted with this author, Aubrey Wynne and I must say I am impressed. I love the way she weaves history into this story. The romance is not "mushy" but sweet and realistic. There is excitement and love and loyalty; lines to be drawn and decisions about the side to be taken. Good book if you like historical novels.

Enjoyable listen

I started this and wanted to listen until the very end. The characters are engaging and the problems they face believable. Gideon's mother Maeve has a dream where she sees Ian's death. Gideon does not believe her but agrees to take her to Scotland anyway. Once there, he encounters Ian's widow Alisabeth. They are drawn to each other but Lissie feels guilty as her husband just died. There is trouble after Ian's death and Gideon and her brother step in to help. Maeve encourages Lissie to go back to England with them where Gideon is hoping to court her after 6 months. Gideon is very narrow in his thinking and Lissie begins to get him to change his views. Once again, trouble comes to Scotland and they go back to see how to help. A fire and a rebellion occur with people working together to stop them. Lissie is injured and Gideon saves her. She then has to make the decision to marry Gideon and move to England or stay in Scotland.

A love of a lifetime in a troubled country

True historical facts brings this story to life. While the romance of Gideon and Alisabeth are fictional, the riots and heartbreak of the Scottish and English skirmishes were true events.
The marriage of fact and fiction is never easy, however this story is a true work of heart. Wonderfully written and brilliantly performed. 5 stars are not nearly enough!

A beautiful Historical Romance

This is the third book in the Once Upon A Widow Series, a sweet and clean Historical Romance. Alisabeth and Gideon share an opposites and instant attraction. The story is beautifully written. The storyline is filled with intrigue, magic, drama, action, and romance. I love the quotes before each chapter. Kevin Archer did a great reading of this story.
