About this listen
From the creator of top career YouTube channel Self Made Millennial, the only job search guide you’ll need to get employers competing for you
Are you tired of sending out dozens of job applications every day and never hearing back? Or, when you do land interviews, not getting an offer, and never knowing why? As a former recruiter and head of HR at multiple companies, Madeline Mann has seen every kind of job application under the sun, and she’s here to tell you that the antiquated job search advice you’ve been told before is all wrong.
After years of working in HR, Mann began to share her behind-the-scenes insight into the world of hiring, creating viral career tip videos and posts online—and soon amassing nearly 1 million followers across YouTube, LinkedIn, and TikTok. In Reverse the Search, Mann distills her juiciest advice into a concise guide on how to turn the job search around, going from job seeking to job shopping—from desperately sending out applications to having your pick of jobs. By following the simple but proven steps—beginning with determining your ideal job through negotiating your final offer—that have landed hundreds of Mann’s career coaching clients positions at dream companies, you will transform into a lifelong Job Shopper, getting recruited and attracting opportunities at every stage.
Because Job Shoppers know they deserve to land more than any old job. They deserve a job that brings meaningful work, happiness, flexibility, and financial stability. And with Reverse the Search’s help, you’ll get noticed and approached, even when you’re not actively looking a job. You will have the leverage, and you will never have to perform a soul-sucking job search again.

Too often our inner critic fabricates stories that undervalue our capabilities or make us question where we're going and why. The things we keep telling ourselves eventually start to feel true and even inevitable—as if we're destined to live within the confines of that story for the rest of our lives. Sought-after speaker and executive coach Chad Sanschagrin teaches that "you find what you focus on," and he's shown millions in search of a better life how to write a better story by focusing on who they want to become instead of what they want to achieve.

Story
Women around the world do extremely well when it comes to their education. They graduate at higher rates than men and have higher average GPAs. But then a strange thing happens: upon entering the workforce, they immediately lose their advantage. When the first promotions come around, the slide continues. For every 100 men promoted to manager, only 81 women overall and 77 women of color get promoted. This is what McKinsey senior partners Kweilin Ellingrud, Lareina Yee, and María del Mar Martínez call "the broken rung," and its effects compound throughout women's careers.

We’ve been taught that resilience is the secret to navigating life’s most difficult moments. According to New York Times bestselling author and organizational psychologist Dr. Tasha Eurich, there is just one problem with this assumption. Scientifically, resilience isn’t an unlimited resource, especially with the growing pressure, uncertainty, and chaos we’re experiencing today. But what if, instead of merely “bouncing back” from stressors and setbacks, we could harness them for forward growth?

So Far.. So Excellent!
I came across this book through a LinkedIn post that showed up on my feed, and I instantly knew it was something I needed to check out.
Right from the start, I felt like the author was describing me—I’m exactly the person the author describes who has embraced the 5 myths mentioned in the beginning of the book. But I’m also the person who’s ready to apply her insights and advice, and I’m confident it will positively shape my job search journey.
I really love the concept of this book. I’m only three chapters in, but it’s already clear that it’s a powerful resource. I’ve gained so much insight in such a short time, and I’m excited to keep learning from it. Time to do the work outlined in the book and trust the process!
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
