Publisher's summary

When a community center opens in town, many embrace it as a space where locals of all ages can gather and create. Others view it as a waste of taxpayer dollars. The director, Darleen Busby-Platt, is no less controversial. Intense and showy, Darleen has huge plans for her new role. But Lucy Stone believes the woman isn’t exactly as warm hearted—or qualified—as she seems. That hunch deepens when Darleen and a young employee vanish...and dismembered remains appear!

With lots of clues and few concrete answers, Lucy rushes to connect loose ends. First, there’s the disappearance of Tim Stillings, a troubled twenty-something who endured harsh treatment on the job. Next, there’s Darleen herself, who made fast enemies as the highest-paid resident in Tinker’s Cove. Finally, there’s Darleen’s rich ancestry and ties to heirlooms worth either a fortune or nothing at all.

The closer Lucy gets to the facts, the more she realizes that solving this murder depends on the lies. Because the truth rests somewhere between wild rumors, a trusted friend’s emotional new sewing project, and the authenticity of a mysterious three-hundred-year-old patchwork quilt. And Lucy must piece together the big picture—before she becomes part of crafty killer’s deadly design...

Personal view

I have read every one of the Lucy Stone books. The last 2 books have filled with environment climate change issues. I don’t want to read a fiction book to listen to that. I’m posting because if I knew how much is included in the story I would not have spent money on the book. The story lines have also been much weaker than the previous Lucy Stone books. I guess I’m done with this series.

Very Different From Past Lucy Stone Books

I’ve read/listened to all of the Lucy Stone books and loved them all. I also re-listen to them. Unfortunately this book was not one I enjoyed. The narrator is different from Meier’s previous Lucy Stone books and was not as good . The book itself was also much darker than previous ones. I’ve loved all the interactions between Lucy and her family and friends. Unfortunately this book did not offer the cozy family, friend and townspeople interactions. I’m hoping the next Lucy Stone book will bring back the former narrator and interactions with all her familiar family and friends.

Slow!!!

This is not like the other books that I’ve read by this author and I did not enjoy it. I stuck with it to the end, but it moved so slowly and it just seems sort of flat.

Not The Usual

Pre-ordered with anticipation. Have read this series from the beginning and this latest may be my last.
Narrator had trouble voicing for different characters - the background/supporting characters. male or female, all sounded alike. at times even cartoonish.
Storyline was too political and not cohesive throughout, but somewhat comes together in the end.
Story too serious and graphic to be a "cozy". SPOILERS: Mental Health issues, Maternal Filicide and dismembered body parts.
I did finish the book but cant say I enjoyed it. IMO, a disappointment for Lucy Stone fans.
