Questo truculento inizio dà l'avvio a una fiaba cadenzata come un balletto, nella quale attorno al mezzo-visconte si muovono e s'affannano sudditi più dimezzati di lui. È una fantasia paga del fuoco di fila delle sue trovate, questa di Calvino, o una pensosa allegoria della condizione dell'uomo contemporaneo sempre "alienato", mutilato, impossibilitato a raggiungere l'integrità, la completezza?
