A very pleasant surprise.

I honestly got bored very fast in the beginning, I don’t know how the author managed it but I HATED the MC within the first few minutes. I seriously considered returning this book, which would’ve been a first ever thing for me. But I gave it some more time and as the chapters get going and going, I got SO much more invested with the character and his evolution through the first book is excellent. I went from hating him, to loving him. The story has excellent pacing, wonderful characters that aren’t just skin deep and the spicy bits are good and aren’t a copy paste, each feels different. Great surprise of a book. Highly recommend if you love action/adventure/harem series’.

So far still best book in the series.

Books is the best one in the series. After book one steamy encounters within the harem fall away, and the glue holding everything in the story together dissolve. They start to get boring. But still good book, at least this one!

Pretty brilliant, didn't quite stick the landing

It's really hard to write an arrogant, highly competent protagonist and make them likeable, but Sloss manages it in this book. From pretty much the moment we meet Wes we're made aware of how highly he thinks of himself, and lowly the wastrels the ride on the coattails of his achievements.

Obviously, this would be a lot harder to stomach if he wasn't as supremely talented as he is.

Why I think the book doesn't stick the landing however is a bit spoilery, but suffice it to say when I wanted him to reign superior over his enemies with a smirk and belittling words, he becomes quite melancholy and resorts to petty pottymouthery (fuck you! bitch! etc etc).

Now i curse like a sailor, so that's not my issue. It just feels... beneath him to lose his temper like that. Losing the war of words, as it were. It wasn't as satisfying as it should have been.

Regardless, I'm eagerly awaiting book 2. I've read a couple of Sloss' other books, this is his best by far.

More drinking

Marcus is back with yet another zinger. And as he proceeds to give us what we need; I'd like to point out the range he has on his books. Whether it's Sci Fi, medieval, or slightly modern Marc's gonna give it to you with all you could want.
Now as for the title of this review. I'm just saying i hope to see more drunk scenes in the next one. I mean they are pirates now, "drink up me hearty, yoho".

Over confident much??

If someone kicked the main character in the groin every time he thought or said just how superior he was to everyone else they would help Darwinism out with preventing him from breeding before the end of the first chapter. It gets really old by the end of the book but otherwise it’s a good read.

Very good

I picked this book up on a whim and was very pleasantly surprised. It started a little slow but by the mid point it had taken off with gusto. Well done all around!

Pirates life!

The character has q very pompous outlook and it is reflected in the voice acting. kinda hard to get used to, but muscled through.
