Publisher's summary

With a Hollywood film crew in town to shoot a remake of the horror classic The Perishing, the residents of Wildwood Cove are all abuzz. Even Marley McKinney, owner of The Flip Side Pancake House, can overlook the fact that the lead actress, Alyssa Jayde, happens to be an old flame of her boyfriend. After all, the crew loves Marley's crêpes - so much so that Christine, the head makeup artist, invites her on set for a behind-the-scenes tour. But when Marley arrives, the special-effects trailer is on fire...with Christine inside.

The cops quickly rule Christine's death a murder, and Alyssa a suspect. Marley's boyfriend insists that the actress is innocent, but when Marley sticks her nose into the complicated lives of The Perishing's cast and crew, she discovers more questions than answers. It seems that everyone has a hidden agenda - and a plausible motive. And as the horror spills over from the silver screen, Marley gets a funny feeling that she may be the killer's next victim.

Good story. Liked characters. Ending was a bit uneveventful, but overall good story. Enjoyed it.

Couldn’t get past the narrator

The story had a good flow and theme. I recommend listening to a snippet first though. I couldn’t finish because the narrator was a little too “breathy” for my taste and distracted me from true story.

Good story

Great narrator and I like a story that has a surprise killer. But the main characters were too sappy for me.

Story line was unique

The story was different in many aspects. Not as dark as some have been lately

Old Films, Old Flames, and a Recipe for Murder

The third in the Pancake House Mysteries is a great addition, finding a movie crew in Wildwood Cove to remake an old horror film. The town is a buzz around the film set and Marley is invited behind the scenes for a tour with the head make-up artist, Christine. But when she arrives, the entire special effects trailer is on fire, with Christine inside. With a fire and murder, and Brett's ex-girlfriend now the lead actress in the film, and prime suspect in the murder, Marley is hurt and jealous. But she's bound and determined to sniff out the truth. I'm not a fan of horror films, but the book really isn't about that. It's mostly about the people and the solving of the crime. I like how Marley works through her feelings and comes to right conclusions about Brett. I like that the series remains mostly clean, even with a love story in the mix. And I really like all the characters. Great resolution.

Okay for Free

The main character is likeable but the phrasing gets repetitive. It’s a good listen when you want to be able to stop at any time and pick it back up later.

Such a good series for want to be sleuths

Modern day Nancy Drew. I have enjoyed this series so far. I love how Marley always find herself in the middle of a mess, but she has now became one of my favorite sleuths. I loved Nancy Drew and even though this series isn’t as long😩 still the stories are great.
