Fascinating and fast paced!

I enjoyed the characters and the settings. Possible spoiler: I was surprised that there wasn’t a more obvious solution to the romance issue, i.e. that of the hero turning out to be unrelated to the heroine by virtue of his mother’s extramarital activity. Too bad! The first cousins thing is a little off-putting TBH, tho possibly that’s a cultural prejudice.

One of the best dick Frances stories

I have always enjoyed dick Francis ‘s stories. In my view, this is one of the best five if not the very best of his work. One reason I like it so much is that it has a lot of real horse racing in it !

Worth it but uncomfortable themes

As always the story is exciting engaging and well performed with predictable events but I was uncomfortable with the sun theme of potential incest and the vengeance of the hero Usually the criminals are the sadidtic ones

One of his best!

This one is a sharp, well-written novel. The struggle and triumph are supremely satisfying. Great narrator as well.

Amazing psycho-thriller set in racing

Cloaked in the easily recognizable world of steeplechase racing, Dick Francis delivers another deranged killer and the clever jockey who gets the best of him in the end! Riveting!

Grit… anxiety… love… shock… then, silent triumph

how can this skilled author repeatedly produce these gripping dramas? This psychological thriller with a multitude of rousing emotions, demonstrates the unequalled skill of of the writer and presenter alike! Thank you so much!

Psychological

It’s hard to know if this is the best, but it’s one of the best dick Francis novels. Here, he delves into the psychology of racing and psychology of jealousy, and of revenge. It is a wonderfully plotted story beautifully narrated. Tony Britton is amazing.

Lusting after his cousin?!?

Not my fave dick Francis book - and I’ve listened to all that are available. The plot is good, but drags a bit. But the story line about being in love with his cousin was just creepy. And it kept cropping up, chapter after chapter.
