About this listen

You can always trust your family....or can you?

Dean wakes disoriented, his hands covered in blood. He realizes he must have had another seizure, and it’s stolen all memories of what happened. Given his history of violence during his episodes, fear immediately sets in. And when his stepmother enters the room and screams, he notices his father’s bloody corpse on the bed.

When questioned by the detective investigating the case, what unravels is a story of deception, infidelity, and revenge that rivals any Hollywood film. But will she believe his story? He’s not even sure he does.

When he’s released on bail, things only get more confusing and convoluted. Things are not as they appear. With his inability to remember anything leading up to the murder, Dean can only hope the truth comes out before he spends the rest of his life behind bars...or worse.

A thrilling psychological thriller that you won't be able to put down!

Twisted mind games

Dean was a pawn under master manipulators, first his heartless dad then stepmommy dearest. The twisted mind games from both were enough to break a lesser man. Right to the very end Melissa was evil and deserved to be where she ended up and his dad too. What an interesting journey. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job bringing it to life.

Title deceiving

The title of this book does not in my opinion relay the story details at all. The actual story was really good one of those books you can’t put down. Deals with an over bearing father sexy step mother and a professor with seizures makes for a destructive household. The narration was well done not someone trying different voices to match the characters, sure his voice changed when he was speaking as his father but never did he try to imitate the voice of a woman.
I received this free from the author or narrator for an honest review.

Love. Death. And complicated secrets

Received as an audio copy to review from the narrator Dan Delgado, this is an honest review. With an amazing performance anchoring this harrowing story, elevates Theo Baxter's book it's into a something else that won't be forgotten. Forced back into his childhood home and back into a space with his abusive father; it's his father's new wife that gives Dean solace in the man's shitty future. When his chronic epilepsy disease surfaces and he blackouts, Dean is plunged into a living nightmare as he's desperate to get the detectives assigned to uncover who killed Dean's asshole of a father. The back story that leads the reader to the shocking truth is one heck of a twisted affair that leaves blood on everyone's hands.

Highly recommended listen.

Title has nothing to do with the story

There's absolutely nothing in this book having to do with 'murder for hire'. I'd be really interested to know why the author decided on that title. The majority of this book is narrative. Basically a monologue. There were many times that I actually thought about putting it down, but I was interested enough to want to find out what happened and see if, at some point, there actually was a murder for hire completed. I listen to the audiobook version of this book, and Dan Delgado has a great voice and does a really good job with the narration.
