About this listen

A new entry in the Monster Hunter Memoirs series.

Chloe Mendoza and her team from Monster Hunter International must seek out and destroy an ancient evil threatening Los Angeles at the height of Disco Fever.

Los Angeles: the 1970s.

Disco is king, and the nightclubs are full of young, beautiful people with Saturday night fever. From the Sunset Strip to Hollywood Boulevard, a new era is dawning. But below the glitz and glamor, a darkness lurks.

Chloe Mendoza knows darkness. She is a nagualii, a half-demon created by the gods of Central and South America, a daughter of the Court of Feathers, a group of demigods who ruled Mesoamerica before the Spanish arrived.

Now, she is a member of Monster Hunter International’s latest team, based in the LA Basin. Business is good in the City of Angels, but soon Chloe gets a message from the Court of Feathers, warning her of a Dark Master who is building up its power in the region. Whatever it is, it brings death and carnage with it.

Time to boogie.

Not my favorite narrator...

MHI is by far some of my favorite stories whether on audible or in books. I have enjoyed all the gore, goo, and beat downs and Fever certainly has plenty. The narrator was a very poor choice and certainly lessened my enjoyment of the audiobook. I am looking forward to having the time to just read the story and not be distracted by trying to decide if the narrator was trying to channel Foghorn Leghorn or Colonel Sanders.

Scratches the MHI Itch

First, elephant in the room. The narration. Is it amazing? No. The accents could be better and there's a bit of an odd word pacing at times.

But I'll break with what some other reviewers are saying, that it makes for a terrible audiobook. The narration is fine. Apart from a few chapters, the characters are all new, so we're not dealing with someone else talking for a known voice, like we had with Guardian. And for everyone saying that Oliver Wyman needs to re-narrate this, no. You don't have a man narrate a book written in first person with a female main character.

Now, the story? Yeah, it's good. Damn good. I had some issues with John Ringo's writing style and Chad as a character in the other Memoirs books. Jason Cordova, though? He nails it. The cast of characters is great, the action is fun, the plot is interesting. This is an MHI book, though and through.

This is a great book. If you're an MHI fan, pick it up. If you've never read MHI, it's actually a great standalone starting point. Have a flexible mind when it comes to the narration and you won't be disappointed.

Another great entry in the MHI series

This was a really entertaining addition to the MHI series, and I’m looking forward to more stories following Chloe Mendoza.

MHI is BACK!

I will admit that I'm biased about anything in the Monster Hunter International world, but this story is just what I've been waiting for! There's everything I've ever come to expect from Larry Correia; plot, depth, character development - this story hits all the marks. I appreciate Annika Chavez's narration as it really brought the story to life. Thank you for another great glimpse into the MHI world &, please, never stop bringing these stories to us!

Another great MHI Memoirs series!

I enjoyed the last Grunge series that when I heard about this newest series I downloaded and listened as soon as it was released. This series is well worth a listen. These side story mission files are great filler between the main book line and any fan of Larry's or Jason's won't be disappointed with this product.

Outstanding in Every Way

The Monster Hunter series is an expanding world of heroes, monsters, firepower, and the battle between good and evil, with the evil almost always getting the shit kicked out of it. This world needs more stories where evil f’s around and actually finds out. This fits. Entertaining, fun, and badass. There’s a reason to look forward to each new installment. This book is one of them. Can’t wait for the next. This is pure kickass magic.

what a terrible performance for such a good story.

narrator is terrible. just awful I'm sorry if you can't do even a passable male voice you're in the wrong line of work. this should be a 5 star review but I'll never listen to it again which is just to bad as it's a great book.

Prime MHI!

While maybe not as earth-shattering as the first MHI, Fever stays on pace and point with the rest of the universe, gives another aspect of monster hunting before it was cool, and even uses attitudes and atmosphere of the time well. My only small gripe was the few times the narrator pauses briefly mid-sentence (probably starting another page). Not a game breaker at all, just something I noticed. Enjoy the listen, and always check under your bed.
