BEST Parenting Manual

This was an easy listen! Very educational. Provides different approaches and parenting techniques to apply in every day life at home and in the school setting. I read the book and listened to this audio and get more information from it each time in doing so. I love how the author shared personal experiences relating to their trials and tribulations in dealing with their son's diagnosis and related behaviors. Thank you for this wonderful guide. I have already begun applying some of the techniques such as with homework time and it is already producing positive outcomes for my boy.

Very thorough and on point

As a mom of 2 ADHD kids, I can say this book is very well-written and full of helpful information. Not every child with ADHD behaves the same way or struggles with the same things. My son and my daughter are very different with their ADHD. My daughter struggles with the every day tasks, being forgetful, has a range of emotions, cannot think things through and it interferes with everything that she does. My son is more. He needs his brain to just slow down a bit so that he can focus on some harder things, but he does very well with everyday tasks, and his memory is phenomenal.

The strategies can be very helpful but do not worry if not all of them work. What I learned with my kids is I needed to remove what I thought parenting my kids would be like and instead focus on who they are and how they operate and then figure out how best to support that. I also had to learn to not compare my kids to others. Once you can do this, then trying various methods with your kids can become more successful.

Practical Tips That Actually Help

Although I don't have a child with ADHD, I have been a teacher for more than 20 years. I’ve read my fair share of books, but this one really stood out. The strategies are simple, realistic, and actually doable, even on tough days. I especially appreciated the sections on helping with emotional regulation and school advocacy. It’s not overwhelming, just straightforward advice that makes life easier. If you’re looking for real solutions without the fluff, this book is worth it!

Very educational

Thank you for this book. I do have a lot of adult friends who have the diagnosis, and who are still struggling to know how to deal with it. I feel that has a parent it can be so useful to have all those educational tools. I love how the book is picturing ADHD not as a disability, but as a strength when understood and supported in the proper way. I feel this can bring a lot of hope to the people with ADHD who feel like they need to fit in.

Highly Valuable Resource

As an educator, I have worked with many kids with ADHD, mostly teens (who already face enough challenges). Through research, observation, and conversations, I have developed a decent (if non-expert) understanding of how these kids and their parents manage and thrive. I found this book to be excellent, clear, encouraging, and actionable. Filled with helpful information and practical advice, it is comprehensive without being overwhelming. Also, while the entire book is terrific, it is written in such a way that you can pick and choose the chapters you listen to depending on your particular needs at the time.
