The most dangerous arena: An SF con

Our hero reluctantly agrees to go to an SF con. Who knows, he might actually have fun, if they can avoid getting murdered first.

This is book three of the series. There are some references to the previous story, but overall it stands up just fine on its own, so feel free to start here. However, if you enjoy this one as much as I did, you will want to go back and read/listen to the previous books anyway.

This is a light science fiction novel with a heavy dose of dry humor. After all, what would you expect when the hero is a taxman who doesn't get why everyone dislikes tax collectors? The story is very well written and easy to read, but the plot has plenty of twists and turns that keep the reader guessing. The characters are also fantastic, really well developed with personalities that bring the story to life. Overall, a fun read that had be addicted from the start.

I should also mention that the narrator did a great job. The narration was clear, easy to follow and provided just the right hint of character emotions to support the story.

Highly recommended.

Yes! The Taxman is time traveling again!

This entire review can be summed up with this: Yes, the Taxman is time traveling again! A time traveling taxman is just too good of a plot device not to bring back, and I'm glad Rachel Ford did so.

As in the previous books in this series, we get an Alfred Favero who is gung-ho in his role as an IRS agent. But this Alfred is one who is learning how to love and what that means. I enjoyed Alfred's foray into understanding his emotions and how Nancy plays into that. Add in an Alfred that feels extremely out of place at a nerd convention - but he goes anyway because he loves Nancy and wants her to be happy - and you get a recipe for antics and laughter.

The plot is pretty obvious and I had a good guess as to where it was going when it came to tax fraud. This series, however, doesn't depend on a great mystery. The best parts are Alfred and his surrounding cast of characters.

Again, John Carter Aimone is a great narrator for this series and I can't imagine Alfred without hearing his voice. I'll reiterate that Aimone does narrate at a very slow pace, so I've routinely upped my speed on the audiobook to 1.35x. It sounds great at this pace.

One last note ... the cover art for this entire series so far has been amazing.

MarvelousCon & Tax Cons

I was given this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

The best part of this one is the "romance." That's all I'll say. I don't want to spoil anything. If you haven't read the other ones first, do that for context.

Another fun story Time Travelling Tax Man series

Another fun story in the Time Travelling Tax Man series.

I was a little concerned with the title...it sounded just a little to cheesy to me. But after getting into the story, cheesy is actually kind of appropriate. Alfred, the main character, is not a big fan of super hero films, and definitely not a fan of a convention dedicated to super heroes. So he will view it as cheesy.

Overall, the story makes good use of time travel technology, which gets used over and over, although everyone agrees it should never be used. The story is full of stereotypes, and everyone has great fun in exploiting them.

Narration was again great, with a very good ability to voice sarcasm and snark. Well done

The tax man is back and taking on a comic con

First book is a must for back story. 2nd book will make you fall in love with this series...this 3rd installment will build On that and keep you wanting to hear more of the taxman and his zany group and their adventures. In this installment there is a ridiculous amount of time traveling going on, tons of murders, pointy Spock ears (though sadly no red shirt deaths, truly missed out on continuing one of the greatest standing jokes of sci-fi) and a whole lot of parody of marvel, DC and the whole con world in general. Loved it loved it loved it!!!! I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher

Further down the road to insight and perspective

Alfred must save his beloved Nancy’s life, but he can’t do it alone. He has to work with her ex-boyfriend, Jason, to keep her safe, and to do that, he must jump up and down on the ugly worm of suspicion and jealousy planted in his ear by his office coworker. And so Alfred becomes a sleuth, sets aside his own interests (or lack thereof) to go where Nancy can have fun, and works together with Jason to find a killer. And after all the fear and horror are done, Alfred finds that Jason’s not so bad, his office colleague’s weasely whispers are easily dismissed, and that saying, “I love you,” isn’t so hard.

Only one problem left to solve: what happened to the time stream when Nancy, Alfred, and Jason each came back in time to warn each other of another successful murder?

Another great adventure for the tax man!

A good listen

I requested and was provided a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I have read or listened to most of Rachel Ford's books, and enjoyed them all. The TaxMan series is light and sometimes 'tongue in cheek'. The Taxman of the future must go to extraordinary lengths to fight fraud and hold tax cheats accountable. The narrator reads it well, allowing the humor to show.

Cosplay can be murder...

Our favorite quirky IRS analyst is back and while he’s making progress, he’s still romantically challenged. While he really isn’t into going to MarvelousCon, he will do anything to save the woman he, dare I say it, loves...

I’m really enjoying this fun series with all the quirky characters. Rachel Ford has definitely caught the attention of my nerdy inner child.

Another great narration by John Carter Aimone.

Alfred, Nancy, & Josh oh my!

MarvelousCon & Tax Cons (Time Travelling Taxman, Book 3) by Rachel Ford and narrated by John Carter Aimone is a fun one and the best in the series so far! Would recommend if you have been following from the beginning or if you are new and looking for a time travel book. 4 ½ stars for story. 3 stars for narration.

What are Alfred and Nancy up to this time? Nancy unknowingly stumbles upon fraud during a routine tax audit that endangers their lives while attending a Sci-Fi convention called MarvelousCon. From there the time travel adventures begin and poor Josh gets dragged into the mix...again. In the beginning there’s quite a few relationship woes- stick with it because it does pick up and once it does, it’s a fun story. I enjoyed the humor.

The narrator, John Carter Aimone, did an OK job with it. I wish some of the pauses and speech weren’t so slow at times. Sometimes it works, other times it’s too much. He does voice Alfred well and brings him to life.

Overall I recommend. Your inner nerd will appreciate this one.

Parental guidance/trigger warnings: repeat death, minimal swearing (Alfred is a buy the books/innocent kind of guy and doesn’t believe in swearing.

Loved it! I can't get enough

I truly love these characters! Nancy is smart and full of spirit. And a sci fi buff, my dream girl! Alfred lucked out when he hooked up with her. Their budding relationship is just as interesting and important as the chaos they find themselves in. I'm glad we got back to time travel, it is part of the title(time traveling Taxman). I like that Josh is still part of the story. he is getting closure. I just hate when characters are not include in an ongoing story without explaining how or why their gone. The author does a great job with Josh and leaving wiggle room so he can return or pop up time to time through out the series. This was a great addition to the series. I highly recommend you read the Time Traveling Taxman Series, you won't be disappointed.
