About this listen

This marriage of convenience is about to get sticky.

Getting hitched for the health insurance is not Jocelyn Asher's idea of romance.

But the hospital quote has really frosted her cookies, and suddenly, "I'm rich. We should just get married", sounds a whole lot more swoony.

Especially when the man proposing is this gorgeous. And takes her to parties featuring champagne and petit fours. She's a sucker for anything with bubbles or icing. And just like that she finds herself married to a near stranger.

Grant Lorre is usually allergic to spontaneity.

So why did he ask the beautiful small-town baker he had a one-night stand with to marry him? Somehow watching her lick batter off a whisk - not a euphemism - made a wedding and a little fraud seem like a sweet idea.

They'll just play house and make some whoopie - pies, of course - for a few months and then move on with their separate lives. Until then, bring on the cream filling. And that is a euphemism.

But as things heat up even outside of the kitchen, they quickly realize there's no recipe to follow when it comes to love.

Sweet story

I love this series but this particular book was not as good as the first 2 books. There was something about Jocelyn that annoyed me. However, overall this was still a sweet story. I can’t wait to finish up the series.

Steamy small town romcom

I absolutely loved this book and the small town that Erin has created. Grant and Josie have become my favorite my favorite couple in this series. Grant is the broody city guy and Josie is happy and lovable and loves her small hometown. When Josie needs help Grant steps in and helps her by offering to marry her. The chemistry between these two is explosive. It’s hard not to fall in love with these characters. Jason Clarke and Lili Valente were perfect for these characters and loved every moment of their narration. This was a must read/listen if you love small town romcoms.

Laughter, Love, Heart & Steam

Jocelyn and Grant make one heart melting, laugh out loud, need a cold drink and have you feeling swoony couple. This whole series is totally amazing but there was something really extra special about these two. Mr. Practical and Ms. Romance seem very different and yeah, they are but there is no denying the sizzling chemistry and intense emotions they spark in each other. The story itself is a beautifully written blend of fun, sweet, cute, steamy, emotional. The skillful addition of a bit of drama here and a sprinkle of angst there, make what is already delicious recipe to a whole other lever of scrumptiousness!! Whether you are a big rom-con fan, a self-proclaimed romance junkie or just a reader looking for a book that will brighten you day and leave you with a smile this amazing romance is just what you are looking for. I highly recommend it and all the other books in this series very highly. Dual narration only adds to the greatness of this book. It is definitely the preferred option for me and I thought the narrators delivered a stellar performance that made it easy for me to relax and enjoy the book and still become fully focused on it.

Wonderful audio version of this sweet sexy romance

This is my favorite book in this series so far. Josie and Grant’s love story has all the feels. It has the perfect blend of sweet romance, silly moments, and fan your face sexy with a side helping of difficult real life issues. Josie has a pressing medical issue and needs health insurance. Grant has great health insurance and an overwhelming need to take care of women making it a classic marriage of convenience trope. There are a bunch of extras thrown in to this classic storyline to make it so much more - sweet close-knit small town, budding relationship instead of strangers, super romantic wedding night, secret marriage, food as an aphrodisiac, secret medical issues, and the push/pull of need versus independence. I loved that Josie was her own person and is never going to be content being “taken care of” even if financially Grant could easily afford to. I also loved that Grant did not want a woman to need him but could not fight his need to take care of Josie. On their way to their HEA, Josie and Grant find there is so much more to their relationship than a business transaction and you just cannot fight true love. Like the other books in this series, Making Whoopie includes a number of secondary characters interwoven throughout the story - some we’ve met in previous books and others are new. Rather than being overwhelming or detracting from the main love story, these characters are central to Josie and Grant’s love story and to the heart of what makes small town Appleby, Iowa and the people who live there so wonderful. I am excited to hear what happens next for Hot Cakes and rest of the town. With Making Whoopie, Erin Nicholas once again proves she’s a phenomenal storyteller who creates towns we all want to live in and Jason Clarke and Lili Valente bring those characters to life with their perfect voices.

Can Grant loosen up? Even a little?

Making Whoopie, Book 3 of Hotcakes by Erin Nicholas is a small town romance, part of an entertaining series about a group of five young millionaires who have expanded their business from creating a popular video game to purchasing a snack cake company in the hometown of two of them. This particular story is about Grant Lorre, the money guy and super sensible adult of the group, and Josie Asher, a small-town baker, who are about as unsuited as two people could be, until one takes a closer look.
Yes, there is hot sex, plenty of it, but Grant doesn't plan to stay in Appleby. When he learns that Josie needs gall bladder surgery but has no insurance and cannot afford it, he steps forward with an offer of a marriage of convenience in order to get her on his insurance so she can have the surgery. In the process, he falls in love. Cam, his friend and lawyer, has the divorce papers delivered and he and Josie both sign them without reading them, both intending to come back together at some point. Will this work out?

Lili Valente and Jason Clarke are Audible's choice of narrators/readers for this story and there could not be a better choice. Clarke and is strong and masculine, and Valente hits just the right tone, not only for Josie, but for her friends. Listening to this book adds a dimension not found in the reading of the book and it is due to these two. What a wonderful choice!

I was invited by the author to listen to a free copy of Making Whoopie from Audible. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Terrific story

I loved this story in the Hot Cake series by author Erin Nicholas. Her small town romance books are always so much fun and I enjoy the friendships, witty dialogue, humor and food references. Jason Clarke and Lili Valente did a terrific job with their narration and brought the story and characters to life. I really enjoyed their performances of Grant and Josie who are the main couple in this book and their narration captured the feelings this couple had for each other as I listened. I would definitely recommend this audiobook.

Hot Cakes Series

Making Whoopie (Hot Cakes, Book 3) is a luscious story with an arranged marriage twist. I love the characters, storyline and the baking aspects of the story. I lovely hea.

Narators Jason Clarke, Lili Valente are the icing on the cake. I absolutely love this dual naration. Jason Clarke's deep baritone inflection is intoxicating. He becomes the character in the role he is portraying. Lili Valente captures your mind with her sweet tone. Her ability to become the character brings vivid images to your mind.
