About this listen

Gita Chithra embarks on a mission through space to save the robot she loves as a daughter—or risk losing her in the depths of Loki’s Ring—in this intergalactic space adventure from beloved author Stina Leicht.

Gita Chithra, the captain of the intergalactic ship The Tempest, is used to leading her crew on simple retrieval and assistance missions. But when she receives a frantic distress call from Ri, the AI she trained from inception—making her like a daughter to Gita—she knows she’s in for something much more dangerous.

Ri is trapped in the depths of Loki’s Ring, an artificial alien-made solar system, and says everyone in the vicinity has been infected and killed by a mysterious contagion. Gita and her team investigate, only to discover horrors at every turn, and are soon stranded themselves, leaving them vulnerable to infection and attack.

Forced to call on an old friend to help them out of this mess, Gita must succeed or risk losing everyone she’s ever loved.

Better than I expected.

Loki's Ring was a lot better than I expected based on the negative reviews. Yes it is a longer than it needed to be, and I wish it spent a little more time early on with the world building, but nearly all the characters and events really are great.

The narration was also better then the reviewers seem to say. Every one of the many characters was easily identified. The pacing was good and voice easily understandable.

I definitely understand how this story won't be for everybody, but I do feel it's worth listening to.

good book

Good book. I thoroughly enjoyed it even if all the characters seemed tender to the point of incredulity.

Tedious and forgettable

This is for you if you love being told about: space politics, how A.I. works in the future,
and each character’s preferred pronoun.

This is not for you if you crave action, personality, or clever dialogue.

Other than some nice accenting, the narration is as bland as the writing. There are numerous female characters with very little variation in voicing to tell them apart.

Significant events, reveals, and deaths were ho hum. It felt like there were only three things I learned about every character: race/culture, pronoun, and one other thing like Ghita has an A.I. daughter,
Aggie wears combat boots, and Carter loves to say the F word. Okay, that’s maybe an exaggeration.
Or maybe I can’t remember much because it was just that forgettable. The blah was static in my ears, causing my eyes to glaze and my mind to numb.

Everyone's Gay and doesn't know if they man/Woman

The story line is a good one, and I don't personally care if someone insists on not knowing if they're a man or a woman. what bothers me is that in this book that could have been so good every one seems to be a they and they're all having sex with either multiple partners or the same sex. the author is so caught up in pandering to a crowd that they can't tell the story. every 2nd person is they and gay and polygamist. take that stuff out and the book is about only 6 hours long. it's too much to even keep trying to listen to other books or more works from this author. I wish them the best but definitely NOT FOR ME.
