Publisher's summary

Loss can be overwhelming, and recovery often seems terribly daunting, if not impossible. But with great compassion, Life After Loss offers a way through it.

Drawing on numerous first-hand stories and almost 40 years of pastoral counseling to inform his advice, Bob Deits provides helpful exercises for navigating the uncertain terrain of loss and grief.

From letting go of asking "Why?" to taking charge of grief and moving through it, Life After Loss is a classic in the field of grief recovery. It will help you find positive ways to put together a life that is necessarily different, but equally meaningful.

Any additional comments?

If you have experienced any kind of loss in your life be it job, a pet, a loved one this book covers it all. This book also covers difficult topics such as cancer, contracting HIV, and chronic illness. It has practical exercises to help you work through your grief that I found incredibly helpful. This is a book that you could read several times and take something different from it each time. This book gave me a deeper understanding for time and length when it comes to grief. Grief and loss are different for everyone and there is no right or wrong amount of time that is acceptable to experience what you are going through. I will be appreciating this book and sharing it with others for many years to come.

A Good Reference After Reading Other Books

As a mature Christian who has experienced both divorce and the sudden death of a spouse, I find this book to be very good in laying out steps to recovery. I find his comparing the grief from divorce to be very similar to the grief from a death to belittle the latter. Divorce does not compare. So, for those who have not experienced a death from an immediate family member, this is a great reference. For those with the death experience looking for a great "first book", I'd recommend "I Wasn't Ready to Say Goodbye" first. When you are ready to move to recovery steps, listen to this.

Unexpected and unwanted divorce!!!

My husband and I were together 11 wonderful years. Two years prior his mom passed away due to ovarian cancer at 63 yrs young. When she died a part of him did too. He did not grieve or get help. He slipped into a silent depression and buried himself in work and became disconnected to both family and friends. I tried helping him but he continued to slip away in silence. On Dec 28th 2018 he told me he wanted a divorce. I was shocked!!!! Hurt. Heartbroken. In disbelief. I didn't tell anyone till after he filed and I had already found a place to move into. It was SO surreal. We stayed amicable as we were friends and I was hanging onto hope. I cried hysterically every night at bedtime. We stayed living together till the divorce was final and my new place was ready to move into a week before our anniversary April 17th. THIS book was MY saving grace. It validated how I WAS feeling!!!! It walked me through HOW to cope. It was better than any advice family or friends could have given me with dealing with their emotions. I KNOW because of listening to this book on audio I am doing better than expected! My counselor I went and saw a few times praised me for reading this book! I highly recommend it! My heart aches, I miss him terribly, BUT my heart aches for him too for his loss that he hasn't dealt with and someday he WILL miss me too.
