Publisher's summary

It had taken four long, difficult years to tame the virgin prairie of Dakota Territory. Looking back through all the heartache and the body-breaking labor, Ingeborg Bjorklund knew that God had been with them every step of the way. Dreams that had turned into veritable nightmares had been reshaped with the promise of a new day rising, and her marriage to Haaken had been its sure sign.

Hjelmer travels west to work on the railroad, and, after sending only one letter to Penny, who has agreed to wait for him, he is not heard from again. As the months pass, Penny is pursued by other eligible suitors, and her love for Hjelmer is sorely tried. Will he ever return to keep his promise?

Phenomenal!

I am in love with this series! The Red River series (Snelling). I have just finished the third book of five. I cannot wait to read the other two, but at the same time, I want to take it slowly because I know that I will miss these families so much when I'm done! God bless them and God bless you. Callie B. had done a great job with the reading. I now equate her voice with the series. Dear God I hope she is the reader of the last two books! Thank you Callie for your time and effort, your clear, precise, animated, just right reading is truly appreciated!

So authentic

The stories of birth are so authentic. Lauraine Snelling’s accounts of “the walking time of labor” is an effective home birth practice, I just didn’t know wat to call it.

I really enjoyed the book and the narrator has just a nice voice that makes the story come to life.

I really liked the story line and the way the scripture was woven through the story. Even though it is fictional the struggles of life are real to all of us. I was inspired by the application of God's word. Thank you for excellent books such as this that weave romance and struggles and joy all together.

As Expected...

Lauraine Smelling and Callie Beaulieu have done it again. I was so happy that the story finally gave us a long awaited marriage and a name for their town. I cannot wait to hear what comes next.

A Land to Call Home

This is the second book I have read by Lauraine Smelling and I am looking forward to reading more from this wonderful author. Paired with narrator Callie Beaulieu , who lends her skills to bring the characters alive ,makes for hours of great reading .

Good book

Lauraine Snelling describes the very difficult struggle Christian pioneers from Norway had in settling the Red River Valley in North Dakota. She continues the story in this book telling of how they continued to survive and thrive after the deaths of their husband's and children due to the flu epidemic. Having to assume responsibilities she had never had to , Ingabord continues to live on and find new love and purpose as the fruits of their labors start to pay off.

#3 book in this Red River series

I feel like I am there for every event in the book! I really enjoyed the quilting bees because the women used the materials saved each year. Nothing was ever wasted: not food, sewing material, or anything. I enjoyed the men building wood buildings and buying more equipment to sustain the farms.

The characters are individuals whom I'd like to know.

Great narration also.

A suggestion: please number the books in each series. I have to go elsewhere to see what to listen to next.
