About this listen

It is 1893, and the first generation of immigrants who came to America for the promise of free land and a good life for their children have finally achieved their dreams. They labored hard on the land and now have a bountiful heritage to pass on to the next generation. However, many of the young people aren't interested in becoming farmers - they have aspirations of their own.

Thorliff Bjorklund has been writing stories and plays since he was a young boy and longs to attend college to study journalism. But his father has other plans for him and refuses to agree.

Thorliff is torn between love for his father and the pull of his dream. Must he choose between the two?

it's giving yoohoo big summer blowout!

the narrator was cringey to the max. the Norwegian accent was awful and sounded like oaken from frozen. Honestly though the female southerners may have been the worst. absolutely tragic. I couldn't even focus on the story because the narration was so distracting.

The narrator will drive you nuts!

I have really enjoyed this series up to this book. It’s not the book, but the narration. I have never sped through a book faster. I turned up the speed to get it done quickly. There are important facts of the story that are only in this book. He makes everyone sound like nasal country bumpkins and it drove me to distraction. You may just want to check this book out of the library…

Blessing Dakota

I absolutely love Lauraine Snellings books. The characters, everything about the to Blessing Dakota series is wonderful. I have loved all the narrators until now, this gentleman read it very well, But his voice on the other characters. I just couldn't listen to It. I can stick but I did not enjoy that part of it..

Horrible narrator

Why did you change narrators? The lady that was reading the books was great. This man was terrible.

Another Great Episode in the Blessing Saga

Lauraine Snelling doesn’t disappoint with this story of Thorliff’s first venture outside of Blessing, ND. Although it ends somewhat abruptly it leaves the listener waiting for the rest of the story. I love audio books because it allows me to “read” while cooking and driving. However, I will be reluctant to purchase books featuring this narrator in the future. His cadence and infliction are boring and repetitive and have nothing to do with the meaning of the text. His pronunciation of the names of the characters is inconsistent with the previous installments of this series read by a different narrator, and his attempt at accents is embarrassing and insulting. Not only are his accents for the southern characters not authentic, his vocal interpretation of every southern character is nasal and cartoonish and sounds like Grandpa Jones from the Hee Haw television series. If this narrator is on the next book in the series I will be reading the book from my library app instead of purchasing the audio book.

makes characters sound like idiots

the narrators attempt at the accent made the sound like idiots. was painful to listen to. I have the book, he added words and changed sentences. the story is awesome can't stand the person who read it. he ruined a good book. He is also whinny.
