Publisher's summary

Beloved New York Times bestseller M. C. Beaton’s cranky, crafty Agatha Raisin—the star of her own hit television series—is back on the case again.

Agatha Raisin’s private detective agency is working flat out on a series of shop burglaries. The break-ins seem to have taken a violent turn when a friend of Agatha’s is murdered during a raid on his shop. Although determined to nail the villains, Agatha still makes time to help Sir Charles Fraith prepare to stage a massive, hugely glamorous, promotional event in the grounds of his ancestral home, Barfield House.

When Agatha begins to receive death threats and narrowly avoids being abducted by kidnappers, she takes advantage of a previously arranged trip to the island of Mallorca to lie low for a while. There she meets her partner, former police officer John Glass, who is now working as a dance instructor on a cruise liner. Their relationship founders over John’s apparent closeness to his stage dance partner, Louise. Putting her love life on hold, Agatha heads home, having worked out who has been threatening her life.

Can Agatha track down whoever it is that wants her dead, nail her friend’s murderers, and rescue her romance with John Glass? Everything comes to a climax at the Barfield Extravaganza when Agatha also manages to solve a 400-year-old Cotswold murder mystery!

Perfection!

How is it possible that this series keeps excelling? No mystery there - What a blessing for R.W. Green to carry the torch of M.C. Beaton's work - and - Penelope Keith is simply THE BEST! The characters remain our best friends - and the multilayered storylines are perfection!

Love Love Love

First, I must say that Penelope Keith, you're voice is one I can't wait to hear. Agatha has a VERY special place in my heart and as soon as the book started and your voice began, I was instantly happy! I stumstumbled upon Agatha about a year and a half ago and blew through the series. When I dove into M.C. Beaton, I was very sad to learn she had passed and nervous Greene wouldn't be able to copy her tone. I'm SO happy to see that Agatha continues to be just as fantastic and brilliant as she was when I first met her, lying about her quiche! 😂 Thank you for an other WONDERFUL book! I hate that it's over already. I'll revisit it soon I'm sure! keep em' coming!

I love Agatha Raisin

The new author does an excellent job with the characters. The new books are seamless with the older books

Great story! Best one in a while. Loved it

This felt like old Agatha. The storyline was great and I loved the ending. I can't wait for another one.

Not Marion, but still Agatha

Yes, there are occasional moments when something isn't described or worded in the way that Marion Chesney's MC Beaton would have written it. And that did take me out of the story for a moment, especially when it was part of Agatha's internal monologue rather than just the voice of the omniscient narrator. But the characters are still the ones we know, and it feels like checking in on old friends. It was a tiny bummer not to get more of Mrs. Bloxby, but the Tinkler brothers were a delightful new addition. And Penelope Keith is always so wonderful!! The familiarity of her narration smooths out some of the more unfamiliar stylistic choices that aren't the choices Martion Chesney would have made.

Great episode!

R.W. Green continues to write good new stories for Agatha & friends! This one is quite twisty and more complex than most I recall, making it very enjoyable and leaves me looking forward to more.

Some excellent “Agatha” moments and great chuckles. Thanks, R.W. Green, for continuing the series!
