About this listen
Pirates. Those notorious scum of the sea. Those men who make a living defiling other's majestic ships. Robbing the rich and poor alike. Having no mercy. And taking no prisoners.
In a time when pirates ravage the seas, Damean Briggs' mutinous crew kidnaps the admiral's daughter, Penelope. James Cutlass must join forces with pirates to find her and combat the murderous Pirate King. Neither allies nor enemies are ever as they seem out on the great seas!
Forced to trust such strangers, will James be able to save his friend, or will they all meet their miserable demise in Davy Jones' locker?
Does a life at sea
Interest young thee?
Then I'll tell you the way to go
Merchants too kind
The navy be blind
With Pirates is where ye belong
It be the best way
But just know you'll stay
It's a life ye shan't e'er leave!

Story
If there's one thing dragons fear, it's a kraken. Even lowly hull-scrubber Zee Tarrow knows that. Like everyone on the island kingdom of Tosh, he grew up frightened by fables and horrible tales of the great beasts of the deep. It seems an odd thing to impress upon the children of the realm, because–luckily for the dragons and their riders–no one has seen a kraken in a thousand years.

Zib is also an exceptional child, because all children are, in their own way. But where everything Avery does and is can be measured, nothing Zib does can possibly be predicted, except for the fact that she can always be relied upon to be unpredictable. Great story!
situational-humor, verbal-humor, pirates, historical-figures, historical-research
James is twelve when pirates overcome the British navy on the island where he lives with his uncle the Baron. One of James friends is a retired pirate, but those nearer his age are almost ordinary. It's nearing the end of lucrative pirating, and the villain of the piece is after the map James father had been murdered for. Great story! I loved it!
Jake Ruddle sounds perfect as narrator.

Exciting pirate adventure
This is a well written exciting pirate adventure. It is filled with everything you hope for in a Pirate tale. I enjoyed the twists and surprises! The story moved at the perfect pace and kept me engaged. The narration was great, I enjoys the different characters voices, which made it easy to follow, and the pirate language that made it believable. And even a pirate song. I highly recommend this book, and I can’t wait for book 2!

Fantastic Pirate Tale
A fantastic pirate tale that is like a mix between Treasure Island and Pirates of the Caribbean. It features a bunch of famous pirates. This isn’t meant to be historically accurate, but is a delightful read. Loved it. Hope there is a Book 2.
The narration was amazing. Jake was great singing shanties. These alone made the listen worth it.

A Swashbuckling Adventure
I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
"James Cutlass and the Pirate King" is a classic tale of pirates, seafaring and adventure. Benjamin Knight Hunt writes a lighthearted and lovable tale with convincing characters and fast encounters. Jake Ruddle gives a commanding narrative performance, ripe with emotion, passion and conviction.
Young James Cutlass is facing a predicament. His friend Penelope has been captured by Damean Briggs, a notorious pirate. He gathers a crew and sets sail on a daring and dangerous quest to rescue her. Along the way, he faces pirates, fights for his life and unearths revelations from his past. He even encounters the dreaded Pirate King himself. This is an action-packed, fast-paced novel that never takes itself too seriously. Hunt writes compelling characters with plausible motivations. Their conversations are interesting and believable. Although the work is somewhat predictable, there's enough mystery to keep readers guessing. There's rarely a dull moment throughout the book's four hour and 45 mins duration.
Ruddle is a strong narrator, and his talents are on display here. His voice carries emotion and conviction. It's obvious that he was passionate about this project, and that he wanted to share that conviction with the reader. His accents and inflections are fitting for each situation, whether it's an action heavy sequence or a lengthy conversation. Each character has a unique voice that's easy to differentiate; pirate voices are particularly compelling. Ruddle gives a strong performance that bolsters the solid narrative.
"James Cutlass and the Pirate King" is full of action, mystery and intrigue. It maintains a fast-pace, and the dialogue never grows stale. Ruddle brings it to life with emotional, passionate narration that's easy to believe. This book is a great choice for fans of fiction or pirate adventures.

Great Historic Fantasy
Very smooth opening with good foundation laid for story. Narrator has clean, clear voice, with the most excellent accent for this story. Vocal pressure is preformed with excellence.
I recommend this audiobook for ages 12 and older due to some light violence.

Enjoyable Pirate fantasy for all ages
This book is geared towards young adults, but you’re never too old to enjoy a good pirate story. The book is fairly short, at just under five hours, so it moves along at a decent pace. Even though you don’t spend much time with the characters, you do get to know them. The author does a good job bringing actual historical characters into his fantasy novel as well. Unfortunately, the plot was fairly predictable though. That being said, I still enjoyed the story and I’m looking forward to book two. The narrator does a great job with this book. He really brings the characters to life and he can belt out a decent pirate shanty tune. Overall, this was an enjoyable listen and I’m looking forward to book two.

Left a map by his father, James must face down Blackbeard to rescue an Admirals daughter. I loved the characters and adventure of the plot and it took me back to the Treasure Island and Swiss Family Robinson. I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
