Amateurish writing with a rough story

Disclosure; I received this book for free.

I had high hopes for this book when I started it. The idea of following Wizard Juntel through magic battles and birthday parties while his alter ego deals with his own difficulties was compelling and the magi-tech universe full of 'wizards' was very interesting. But it really didn't stay that way.

The story sets up a mystery with grand stakes, but the payoff is confusing and falls incredibly flat. The female love interest is painfully one dimensional, and gives off a very 'men writing women' vibe. One quote from the MC that stood out to me, "Its hard to take advice from someone you're sleeping with." That was gag inducing.

What we have is a bunch of neat concepts stitched together in a story that doesnt stand up, made all the worse by 'Book 1 Syndrome' where the character has a totally flat arc, and its main conflict is about setting up the next book, not being its own story.

TLDR; If I had paid money for this, Id be pissed.
