About this listen

A fantasy comedy adventure!

Destined to become a wizard and save the world, Chauncy got a job instead. 25 years later, destiny is pissed. And this time, it won’t take no for an answer!

When destiny knocked on Chauncy's door, someone else answered it...and told destiny to take a hike. So instead of going on a grand adventure to become a great and powerful wizard so he could save the world from certain destruction, Chauncy got a job.

Twenty-five years later, destiny came for Chauncy a second time...and when he told it to take a hike, it knocked him out, tied him up, and kidnapped him.

Now Chauncy has no choice but to go on the grand adventure he'd been putting off, to become a great and powerful wizard. Except he doesn't believe in magic, and he doesn't particularly believe in destiny either. Problem is, if he doesn't fulfill his destiny, the world as he knows it will end. And even if he does learn to become the wizard he should have been long ago, it might be too late anyway!

Experience this (inappropriate) fantasy comedy from the author of the Runic series and the Magic of Havenwood series!

What, Who,When and where does this ft in?

Sadly i had very high hopes when i got this book. I never rate anything below a 3. it was difficult for me to keep up with the storyline. Normally not a problem. While it might be perfect for some, just not for me.

Great performance and story

The performance was stellar! Each character had a unique personality that was enhanced by the narrator’s voice and inflections. The story was well developed and humorously written. The plot flowed smoothly and the transitions between scenes were well defined.

Would recommend on sale or 2 for 1 add on.

A decent book overall. It was more witty than funny. Most of the humor is enuendo and grows on the listener as it becomes pleasantly anticipated and part of each characters "quirks".

The story is whimsical in many cases, as are the characters, which serves to ground the main protagonist in a good way.

I enjoyed the magic system and its unstructured, structure.

I think this writer has yet to hit their stride in this book and hope there will be more audible installments from this series; with a different narrator.

The narration wasn't awful, but I don't think this was the best book to showcase the narrator's talents. Her "highbrow" (read English) accents were forced, slipped and melodramatic in most cases. She did an "okay" job. I'm not typically a fan of replacing narrators between books, but hope a different narrator is used for future installments. Not sure I'd pick up the second book if it's the same narrator.

Great worldbuilding, interesting concepts

hated every single character. Rude, unreasonable and generally slappable characters to hang out with for 13 hours of an audiobook. Very frustrating. But I did manage to finish it!

Interesting concept

A little slow geting started, but gets to an interesting concept that capitalism is the real evil. The reader makes some of the characters sound snarky & sarcastic, which I might not have chosen. The epilog sets up for a sequel.

A Comedic Fantasy Riot!

Clayton Wood's "Inappropriate Magic" kicks destiny's rear in the most uproarious way! Narrated by the lively LaNecia Edmonds, this hilarious fantasy ride follows Chauncy, who swaps out wizard dreams for a 9-to-5 job. But destiny's patience wears thin, and Chauncy's forced into a zany adventure full of reluctant magic, reluctant heroes, and lots of inappropriate hilarity.

Not for me

I had really high hopes for this book, but was sadly disappointed. I don't think it's a bad story overall, it just wasn't great for me. Others may like it so please give it a try!

funny and nice concepts of magic

The in-your-endo was fairly thick, but that's what she said. The story was really fun, and young adult. A few good genuine laughs and the voice actor was really good. One thing I'm not thrilled with in other stories is if I can't tell if a man or woman speaks, and she does great saying the difference. Fun story, hope for the next one.

Just could not make myself care about the characters

Flat and slow, characters had no desirable or interesting traits for me. Narrator ruined the parts intended to be off color comedy with her monotone cadence. To be honest I bailed on this one about 4 hours in.
