Publisher's summary

When Rick Lamplugh reports for work at the historic Lamar Buffalo Ranch on New Year's Eve, he has one goal: to learn as much as possible about the ecology of the Lamar Valley and how wolves fit in. He has three frigid months to explore on skis and snowshoes, to observe with all his senses, and to listen to and talk with experts.

Lamplugh's story takes you with him as he watches winter-hungry elk and bison migrate to the Lamar Valley to graze. Wolves, coyotes, and mountain lions stalk the grazers while eagles, ravens, and magpies wait to scavenge. The snowy backdrop brings this saga of death and life into sharp focus and makes it unforgettable.

A literary blend of facts and feelings, In the Temple of Wolves celebrates nature's stark beauty and the importance of wolves, while revealing Lamplugh's inner battles with his own human nature.

Good listen!

I liked the day by day account of the author’s experience working at Yellowstone in the winter. I learned a lot about bison and wolves.

Gray wolves should never have been unlisted

I really liked this entire book. Especially the part about if government can cause a country to hate wolves can a government influences people to respect and love wolves and value them as the important and essential apex predators they are, which are so important to our entire ecosystem. Crushing wolves with snowmobiles is inhumane and must end. Torturing and trapping wolves must end. Poisoning wolves must end. Let’s treasure them again-human did once-let’s do it again. They deserve to live. Only the wild owns the wolves.

For the love of the wolf

The reverence and love for this species is palpable. And the success of the reintroduction of the wolf in Yellowstone is what the Swiss Government should be understanding, instead of culling our wolves. Over 50 wolves have been culled here in Switzerland since the new culling decision in December 2023.

Great Learning Experience

As a photography that has been in the Lamar Valley many times in the spring and fall this opened my eyes to the winter magic.. Driving around the Lamar Valley for 4 days last week I found The Temple of Wolves a must for anyone visiting in the Winter months. A great foundation for future Winter visits.

Superb work on the Yellowstone wolves!

I really enjoyed this book on the wolves of Yellowstone National Park, and highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in finding out about the re-establishment of wolves in Yellowstone. Straightforward in the telling, and Mr. Lamplugh does a great job in addressing the concerns of local ranchers in an even and fair handed way. I hope he continues to write as I thoroughly enjoy this subject. An outstanding book all the way around.
