Publisher's summary

Is it possible to be too successful?

Kera is getting better at the witch stuff, and much too good at curtailing gang activities. She knows that’s the case because every gang in her area is after her now, egged on by the Startup. Plus, the reporters are about to break the big story, and the publishers of How to Be a Badass Witch are on her trail.

Is it time for Motorcycle Man to ride off into the sunset?

Her life has become so complicated that she’s had to put away thoughts of happily-ever-after. In fact, she has committed a possibly unforgivable sin to make sure that happens. Can she continue to keep downtown LA and her friends safe...and keep her life?

Is there more?

The story seems incomplete. Like there should be a fourth book. Be sure to have all three books before starting. It is really just one long story divided in to 3 books.

Fun and entertaining

This is best as a YA series. The narrator is perfect for this series. The main character feels very young and forthright. It has the cuttin, shootin, and fightin I need along with the woo woo. This is about a young adult woman who is at odds in her life, looking for her purpose. She is a computer specialist currently working in a bar and living in a warehouse in the garment district of LA.

Her mother tries to manipulate her into a more conventional future. She’s not having it. Meanwhile a council of witches needs to recruit new blood. Two decide on an ill advised plan. They publish an ebook that is a grimoire. They publish the grimoire counting on people who have the knack to try it out. While randos actually do try the spells all are not moral or wise enough to handle the power. Then they unpublish the book. Then they travel from east to west coast to find the new magic workers pompously deciding who should and should not keep their newfound power. The recruits they dont like get their power taken away or blocked.

They eventually find our girl in LA. Meanwhile they have picked up FBI agents who want to train public attention against the girl. She has been doing what she believes to be good deeds. Acting as a vigilante she has been foolishly calling attention to herself in a bad way. The cops and feebs don’t want help with their jobs, the gangs don’t want a do gooder preventing their activities, and reporters hav singled her out.
Plus, she had the audacity to remove the memories from a suitor who she has chemistry with. She wants to prevent him getting hurt. After he bails her out of a tough spot, she thanks him by confusing his mind and erases the whole episode. She convinces him he broke up with her.

Though I haven’t finished the book I have a sneaky suspicion Anderle will leave me hanging the ending without a resolution.

Unsatisfying plot development

I've read many of Mr. Anderle's novels and greatly enjoyed them. This novel, however, seems to be nothing more than filler before MAYBE resolving a multi-book story line. Do yourself a favor and jump from book 2 to (hopelly) book 4.

Meh

Not the caliber I have come to expect from Anderle. Just seems like he was trying to fill a quota. I kept waiting for the thrills and excitement that never came. Idk if I will waste money on the next 6 installments...
