Publisher's summary

A battle between immortals...

Hawke Lightseeker leads an expedition to the city of Akila, planning to confront Kaiser Wrecker and his guild. But the Nerf Herders are only one of many threats lurking in the Imperial city. Hawke and his friends soon become embroiled in a conflict with ancient Undead and deceitful Sidhe. And Kaiser has more than a few surprises for his hated enemy.

Guild at Wars continues the LitRPG series that began with Twilight Templar. Character progression, new levels, skills, magic systems, and Mana cultivation all play a role in the story, along with drama, action, and adventure.

Thought on story flow

Possible spoiler:
I enjoy the story in the imaginative way it’s put together, however in this particular book I was disappointed with the final fight. There was a lot of build up, and then it was nothing close to a struggle for the hero. Suddenly he’s overpowering everything and no longer needs the elaborate plan he’s put together to save his home.
Otherwise I would still highly recommend this series as it is a great conversation on how humans would interact in a new world and I have thoroughly enjoyed the possibility of a good guy necromancer.

Paladin Necromancer?

Great audio reading of an over powered LitRPG character that through divine intervention, is a Paladin Ninja Necromancer!

Great story, world building, and characters e are it’s lots of action.

More story driven

If you like the last three books you'll like this one. With that said I'd like to ramble a bit.

This stories bad guy could have been better. I think the easy move is making the big baddie sexually assault people. Of course that spells out that they're bad, but I feel like you lose out on a lot of nuance for the character. This is just something I've noticed with a lot of litrpg's. Great worlds and characters, but paper thin bad guys.

Review

Overall this was a great audiobook, it started off a little slow. But the story eventually picked up. They definitely expand in the universe a little bit slow which is disappointing, but there is progression in the story. Looking forward to book 5. I’m not as entertaining as book 3 but way better than book 2. 👍👍

another excellent read

Another quality book from C.J.Carella. Just the right amount of RPG to stay in theme without killing the story.
