About this listen

Tribal policeman Bill Maytubby and Deputy Hannah Bond team up again to solve two gruesome murders in this follow-up to Nail's Crossing

In a driving sleet storm, a farmer has discovered a body snagged on cottonwood roots in the Washita River. Johnston County deputy Hannah Bond realizes it's her elderly friend, Alice. Meanwhile, at the Golden Play Casino, robbers posing as armored-car guards kill a local stickball hero and friend of Chickasaw Lighthorse Police detective Bill Maytubby.

The trail leads through the quarry-scarred Oklahoma badlands to a remote airstrip and a planeload of drugs and untraceable automatic weapons. Also somehow connected are a shady coin-op vending company; a neo-Nazi compound outside Paris, Texas; and a headless janitor in a train-mangled van. As the net tightens, the smugglers get wind of their pursuers and converge on Maytubby and Bond at Greasy Bend Bridge.

I am really hoping there are more books coming… the plot is awesome, the descriptions are great. I love the relationships and the tone of this author. Now I have to stop myself from talking with an Okie accent! Addicting

Listen to the whole series!

My mind wandered so much. i did like the narrator. Honesty the book seemed to lack the ability to interest me and not much story line.

Frankly it was only ok

Thus us the second book. I am a Tony Hillerman fan as well as Craig Johnson. This is right in that wheelhouse.

Good listen

Maybe it was the narrator.
Maybe it was the sory itself.
Either way, it just did not hold my attention.

NOT ENOUGH SUBSTANCE

A fast paced thriller/police procedural! Better than Nails Crossing, with more humor and better interaction between Bond and Maytubby. I opted to go with the audiobook this time, and I'm glad I did. Bramhall is perfect for the geographical setting and the cast of Texas/Oklahoma characters. The storyline moves very quickly and Bramhall's pace allowed me to follow the action without breaking a nail. I find Bond and Maytubby endearing characters. Bond reminds me of Sheriff Gunderson of Fargo- stoic, no-nonsense, and completely unafraid (if a little bit crazy). Maytubby is intelligent, ingenious, much more personable, and is central to this story. I certainly would not want these two dogged enforcement officers on my tail for some alleged wrongdoing! I really enjoyed Lackey's latest and can't wait for the next installment!

An Excellent Book!

Wish the narrator varied his tone more. The story would be easier to listen to.

Entertaining

I wish there were more Kris Lackey novels. The three I have read are well written and worth a reread.
Reminds me of Longmire series

So good

Terrific Author, finally an author who doesn’t think every crime mystery must bet set in New York or Los Angeles.

Amazing story

Lackey writes interesting characters who are likable and living if very different circumstances from most of us. His stories are interesting, and his descriptions are vivid without being over long. Very enjoyable.

These books are great
