About this listen

When Tabitha and her best friend, Leslie, were young, they made a pact to never get involved with the same guy. That wasn't a problem for Tabitha, especially as far as Leo Pesciano was concerned. Tabitha hated the guy. It didn't matter that he was good looking and all of the other girls drooled over him, and Leslie had a big crush on him. He was obnoxious and loved to rile Tabitha up, but when she is faced with life-altering challenges, Leo becomes her protector and her friend.

There is a strong chemistry between them that Tabitha tries very hard to ignore, but Leo doesn't make it easy. After an explosive end to their friendship during their college years, more than nine years later they are reunited, and Tabitha is again resistant to the attraction she feels to Leo.

Time, distance, and new lives have come between Leslie and Tabitha over the years, and they rarely speak or see each other, but Tabitha tries to uphold the girl code they created when they were children. Her loyalty to her old friend is admirable, but will this same loyalty destroy her chance with the man who just may be the love of her life?

Tabitha, oh Tabitha…

I really love this author. Her stories are so realistic (at least the two that I’ve read thus far); I can feel the emotions of the characters and I love that. I admit that I don’t understand people like Tabitha (and I guess they do exist in real life) who sacrifice their own happiness over others. Why intentionally make yourself miserable, especially under the circumstances here? It doesn’t make sense to me. And to do it over and over and over again. It was like Tabitha was her own worse enemy. This was good but so far, Tethered is my top pick from this author.

Who was your favorite character and why?

CUTE ENJOYABLE LISTEN WITH A WONDERFUL EPILOGUE

Any additional comments?

I almost gave up on this one because it starts off very young adult but it turns into a really good listen and a very sweet love story. You get a lot of the back story. I could listen to this one over and over again. I loved this ending so much.

Love triangle with a girl code

The only one preventing her from being happy is herself. She holds herself back with fear of being a disloyal friend. A girl code was implemented long before Leo came into their lives causing confusing feelings.

Characters: Leo, Tabitha and Leslie

Story: Tabitha had an unbalanced upbringing. Her parents favored her older brother Tack over her. Tabitha focused on her academics and friendship with Leslie forging a bond with her. For a long while Tabitha and Tack were close providing her the comfort and support that her parents lacked.
When Leslie and Tabitha made a girl code pack it was to protect their friendship from dating the same guys. Never did they consider that love would be a factor that might break the bond.

Narrator: Kate Udall is the sole performer of Girl Code. She is also the sole narrator in Tethered which I’ve listened to as well. Unfortunately, I’m not able to distinguish Kate’s voice as anything other than the voice of Donya from Tethered. Especially since Girl Code and Tethered have the same type of push/pull storyline. Listening to Tabitha give excuses for why she’s not ready to accept Leo’s love sounds all too familiar with Donya expressing the same concerns with Emmet. I felt like this was a repeat of Donya and Emmetts story.
I would have preferred a new narrator to perform these characters. I need a fresh voice and tone. Although, I loved listening to her perform Leo’s Italian words.

Overall: This is not my favorite type of story to read, yet LD Davis writes a compelling story. She is a great writer. This push/pull scenario is something she excels at writing. I just can’t tolerate characters fearing this type of love considering it’s the type of love that is rare to find.
Even though this is part of the Accidentally on Purpose series I felt it was necessary to use a different narrator. Kate already identified as the voice of Donya. Listening to Kate perform Tabitha was confusing.

This coming of age story was the same as Tethered yet different with its lack of chemistry, angst, and passion. This girl code caused a disconnect to both the friendship with Leslie and Leo. The forbidden factor had elements of controversy. I had many questions and concerns regarding Tabitha. Yet, That’s the beauty with these types of stories they allow you to disagree with the choices.

Author: LD Davis teased the reader with sexual dialogue. She offered a roller coaster ride of emotions. Fifteen years of foreplay. This was a slow burning love that took years to build.
